Payroll Supervisor

About the Role

As the Payroll Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day payroll operations for a portfolio of small and medium-sized business (SME) clients. You will lead and support a team, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, on time, and in accordance with legislative requirements.

You will play a key role in reviewing the work of payroll team members, providing guidance, ensuring quality standards are met, and supporting their ongoing development.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the end-to-end payroll processing for a portfolio of SME clients with payrolls of up to 50 employees.
• Review and quality check payroll work completed by payroll team members to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Provide guidance, coaching and technical support to team members, assisting with team development and performance.
• Allocate payroll workloads and monitor deadlines to ensure all client payrolls are completed on schedule.
• Ensure compliance with relevant payroll legislation, including Fair Work requirements, superannuation, PAYG withholding, Single Touch Payroll (STP), payroll tax and leave entitlements.  

• 7 years' payroll experience, ideally from within an accounting firm
• Experience managing payroll for multiple clients (bookkeeping experience is highly regarded
• Demonstrated experience reviewing the payroll process
• Proficiency using Xero and Employment HR payroll software 
• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
• Advanced level of Excel proficiency
