Council is seeking a motivated and capable existing GRC employee to join our Infrastructure Maintenance team, with a primary focus on Signs and Lines operations. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating plant and equipment, and contributing to the construction and maintenance of Council infrastructure.

You’ll work as part of a multi-disciplined team delivering a diverse range of maintenance and construction activities to a high standard, with opportunities to support other maintenance crews as work programs and priorities change.

About the role

• Operate and maintain a range of plant, vehicles, equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Undertake labouring duties, including physical work, heavy lifting, bending and other tasks associated with infrastructure maintenance.
• Support Signs and Lines operations and other Council construction and maintenance programs.
• Carry out work in accordance with Council procedures, recognised standards, safety requirements and quality expectations.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, Council representatives and members of the public.
• Use mobile technology, including mobile phones and tablets, to support a modern and mobile workforce.
• Identify hazards, follow safe work practices and actively contribute to a positive workplace safety culture.
• Look for opportunities to improve work practices and contribute to Council’s commitment to continuous improvement.
• Respond professionally and respectfully to requests and tasks that may have community, councillor or reputational implications.
• Undertake other duties within the scope of the position as required.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, safety-focused and works well as part of a team. You will have:

• Demonstrated experience operating plant, vehicles, equipment and tools competently and safely.
• The physical capability, agility and dexterity required to undertake labouring duties, including frequent heavy lifting and bending.
• The ability to work effectively under general supervision and complete tasks safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues and members of the public.
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• A willingness to learn, adapt and contribute across different maintenance crews as required.

Essential licences and competencies

• Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence.
• Current Construction Industry White Card.

Desirable licences, competencies and experience

The following would be highly regarded:

• Knowledge and experience in civil construction and infrastructure maintenance.
• Current Queensland HR Class Driver Licence.
• Roller Operator competency/ticket.
• RIIWHS302D – Implement Traffic Plans (Level 2) competency.
