About the role
CBC Fremantle is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 7-12. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1901, the College has served the local Fremantle community for over a century helping families to raise boys who continually strive for excellence and who exhibit Catholic Leadership in their quest to establish a more just and peaceful society.
The College seeks to assist in the spiritual, academic, cultural, physical and emotional development of boys while acknowledging the primary role of the family as educator. As such, the College encourages its students to rigorously pursue excellence in all dimensions of their lives and to become leaders within their community through the active expression of their faith.
Design & Technology Teacher - Full Time (1.0 FTE) Ongoing, commencing 1 January 2027.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with all members of the teaching staff to support the best possible outcomes for students. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge, a commitment to innovation, and the ability to inspire and engage students. We also welcome motivated graduates who are eager to learn, develop their skills and grow professionally within the field.
The successful applicant will demonstrate initiative and the capacity to lead and develop innovative projects or courses that align with their personal passions, strengths and areas of professional interest, with strong support from the College. The role will involve teaching classes across Years 7 – 12, with the successful applicant reporting to the Head of Learning Area and the Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning. The role also includes responsibility for a Mentor Group at the beginning of each day, providing pastoral care and undertaking the associated administrative responsibilities of being a significant adult and positive role model for a group of boys.
Key Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will:
Demonstrate an understanding of the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice as articulated in the Charter for Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition.
Give witness to their membership of a Catholic community through their attitudes, actions and practice.
Be willing to become an active member of the CBC Fremantle community with a strong commitment to promoting and supporting the varied aspects of College life.
Have completed or be willing and able to complete the requirements for Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School.
Demonstrates strong technical knowledge (or desire to learn) in materials, tools and manufacturing processes (e.g. Woodwork, Metalwork, CAD/CAM Electronics).
Show a passion for innovation, creativity, and emerging technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and digital design.
Supports student autonomy and fosters an inclusive, collaborative workshop environment.
Encourages resilience and critical thinking through project and passion-based learning.
Familiarity with national curriculum standards and assessment frameworks for Design and Technology.
Capable of designing units that align with cross-disciplinary themes (e.g. sustainability, STEM, entrepreneurship).
Displays high level communication and teamwork capabilities, contributing positively to the College community.
Key Responsibilities
Be prepared to work closely with the Principal and staff to ensure that CBC Fremantle authentically reflects the mission of a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice Tradition.
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and innovative Design and Technology lessons across Years 7–12, aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and College standards.
Create a safe, inclusive, and collaborative workshop environment that promotes student safety, creativity and hands-on learning.
Integrate contemporary and emerging technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and digital design into the curriculum to enhance learning outcomes.
Promote student autonomy, resilience and critical thinking through project-based and passion-based learning approaches.
Contribute to the ongoing development of the Design and Technology curriculum, including the introduction of new tools, programs and techniques.
Maintain high standards of workshop safety and oversee student use of tools, materials, and machines in compliance with OSH regulations.
Participate actively in College life, including staff and department meetings, professional development, co-curricular activities, and community events.
Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, co-develop resources and support cross-curricular initiatives.
Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Principal.
Position Details
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), ongoing contract commencing on 1 January 2027.
