TMI / Traffic Controller

About the role

East Coast Traffic Control is seeking a TMI / Traffic Controller to join our team in Townsville QLD. This is a casual position that plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of both workers and the public at construction sites, roadworks, and other areas requiring traffic management. As a Traffic Controller, you will be responsible for directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, implementing traffic control plans, and maintaining a safe work environment. This role is essential to our operations and directly contributes to the success of our projects and the wellbeing of all site personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and manage traffic flow at construction sites, roadworks, and other designated areas in accordance with approved traffic control plans

• Set up and remove traffic control devices including cones, barriers, signs, and lighting equipment

• Communicate with drivers and the public using hand signals, stop/slow signs, and radio communication to ensure compliance with traffic control instructions

• Monitor site conditions and adjust traffic control measures as necessary to maintain safety standards

• Maintain clear visibility of work areas and ensure all traffic control equipment is visible and properly positioned

• Report hazards, incidents, and near misses to site supervisors and management

• Comply with all relevant legislation, regulations, and company safety policies

• Conduct pre-shift equipment checks and ensure all traffic control devices are in working order

• Communicate effectively with site teams, contractors, and the public to facilitate safe traffic management

What we're looking for

• Valid driver's license

• Demonstrated experience working as a Traffic Controller or in a similar traffic management role

• Strong understanding of traffic control principles, road safety regulations, and relevant Australian Standards

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse groups

• Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for extended periods

• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high safety standards

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• High visibility clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance

• Flexibility to work variable hours, including early starts and shifts as required by project schedules
