The Opportunity

We are seeking an ITS and Traffic Signal Designer to join our Planning & Mobility team in Sydney.

This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer or designer with hands-on experience in TfNSW Traffic Control Signal (TCS) design. Experience in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), traffic management technologies or broader transport infrastructure design would also be highly regarded.

Working within our Advisory business, you will contribute to the planning, design and delivery of innovative transport solutions that improve network performance, safety and mobility outcomes for our clients.

You'll be involved in projects spanning traffic signal design, corridor optimisation, smart Motorways, Intelligent Mobility, and digital infrastructure, road safety initiatives and major transport infrastructure programs.

What You'll Do

• Develop traffic signal and ITS designs for transport infrastructure projects.
• Prepare technical drawings, specifications and design documentation.
• Support the delivery of TfNSW traffic signal plans, charts and cableway drawings. 
• Contribute to the planning and integration of ITS technologies, communications networks and smart mobility solutions.
• Work closely with transport planners, traffic engineers, road designers and digital specialists as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
• Assist with technical reporting, client deliverables and project coordination.
• Support project delivery from concept through to detailed design and implementation.

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

• A degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechatronic, Transport or related Engineering discipline.

• Approximately 3-10 years' experience in Traffic Control Signals (TCS), with exposure to ITS, transport technology or traffic engineering desirable.

• Demonstrated experience with traffic signal design and operation, ideally including SCATS.

• Knowledge of TfNSW traffic signals standards, specifications and guidelines, and relevant Australian Standards.
• Experience using AutoCAD, ProjectWise or design software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
• A collaborative mindset and desire to learn from experienced industry leaders.

The Following Would Be Highly Regarded

• Experience delivering TfNSW Traffic Signal design plans and drawing. Knowledge of detector logic and standard tables development. 
• Experience delivering ITS infrastructure projects.
• Exposure to major road, motorway, tunnel, rail or urban mobility projects.
• Working towards or holding Chartered status.
