Join The BUSY Group as a First Nations Specialist Mentor, where your cultural knowledge, community connections and mentoring strengths will make a genuine impact every day.

As a First Nations Specialist Mentor, you’ll walk alongside apprentices, employers and community stakeholders to strengthen engagement, wellbeing, retention and successful completion. Through culturally safe, relationship‑based mentoring, you’ll help apprentices overcome barriers, build confidence and stay connected to both their workplace and cultural identity.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Culturally safe mentoring — deliver strengths‑based, trauma‑informed support to First Nations Australian Apprentices.
• Relationship building — develop trusted mentoring partnerships with apprentices and employers throughout the apprenticeship lifecycle.
• Tailored Support Plans — identify strengths, barriers and goals, and implement practical strategies to support success.
• Risk identification — assess and respond to wellbeing, engagement and retention risks.
• Cultural guidance — support internal teams to deliver culturally safe services.
• Stakeholder engagement — collaborate with employers, RTOs, GTOs, schools, community organisations and government agencies.
• Community connection — build strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations.
• Workplace support — help resolve workplace issues and strengthen culturally aware employer practices.
• Accurate documentation — maintain case notes, TSPs, reports and contractual records.
• Regional travel — visit apprentices and employers across allocated NSW regions.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience working with First Nations communities
• Understanding of culturally safe, strengths‑based and trauma‑informed practice
• Background in mentoring, youth work or community services
• Strong communication, negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills
• Ability to identify barriers and implement effective intervention strategies
• High‑level written communication skills (case notes, reports, professional correspondence)
• Strong stakeholder engagement and community networking capability
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage a diverse caseload
• Intermediate to advanced digital skills (Microsoft Office, databases, client systems)
• Commitment to ethical practice, cultural safety, child safety and continuous improvement

Essential

• Identified Position — must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
• Current Driver Licence
• Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)
• National Police Check (or ability to obtain)
• Desirable - Qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Youth Work, Counselling, Psychology or similar
• Desirable - Certificate IV in Community Services, Mental Health, Youth Work or equivalent
• Desirable - Mental Health First Aid
