About the Opportunity

A great opportunity for growth, these are entry level positions in a busy Men’s Behaviour Change program where you will be able to develop a solid foundational understanding of domestic and family violence – DVNQ is currently seeking two Men’s Behaviour Change Facilitator’s (Level 4) to join our team in Townsville, QLD.

As a Men’s Behaviour Change Facilitator, your role is pivotal both within DVNQ and as part of our Prevention Team working with male respondents of domestic and family violence. Reporting to the Prevention Team Leader, this role provides information and referrals at the Townsville DFV court, responding to Police referrals and enquiries. In addition, the position will involve providing individual intake and assessments with men coming into our program and upskilling to become a co-facilitator on our Men’s Behaviour Change programs.

There is one Fixed Term full-time position until 31st March 2028 and one Permanent Full-Time position.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide intake and risk assessment and orientation with a clear focus on the safety of women and children.
• Ensure liaise with Women’s Advocates prior to any participants commencing group and ensure information sharing and appropriate processes are followed.
• Model an equal and respectful relationship, being mindful of the dynamics of the working relationship, working from a feminist analysis of domestic violence.
• Approach interactions with participants in a respectful and courteous way, utilising principles of motivation interviewing and critical dialogue to promote reflection and perpetrator accountability, whilst remaining aware of the harmful nature of collusion and privilege that facilitators hold.
• Participate in weekly risk meetings with Women’s Advocates and provide information regarding progress of the group, ongoing assessment of risk and safety, risk management and development and review of safety plans.
• Actively consult with line management, Senior Men’s Behaviour Change Facilitators and Women’s Advocates to share risk concerns and develop risk management plans.
• Attend Townsville Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Court to inform male respondents about their rights and responsibilities when engaging with court, provide information and referral and discuss participation in the Men’s Behaviour Change group program, including promotion of Intervention Orders.
• Respond to QPS Redbourne male respondent referrals and provide information and referral to the MBC program or other services.

Selection Criteria

To be considered, you will need to meet the following criteria:

Qualifications and Experience

• A three-year tertiary qualification in a relevant human services discipline and/or minimum of 2 years’ full-time equivalent professional experience in a relevant human services discipline.
• Completed (or a commitment to complete) specialist evidence-based group perpetrator intervention training is desirable.
• Experience in facilitating perpetrator or other relevant group work with clients with complex and diverse needs is highly desirable.

• Possesses ability to create safe, respectful, and trusting relationships and spaces to promote accountability.
• Ability to recognise collusion and reject tactics used to minimise or deny use of violence.
• Proactive ability to seek out opportunities to maintain current knowledge about emerging evidence and trends.
• Ability to tailor their approach to the needs of the individual and their context, by understanding the correlation between gender, disability, sexual orientation, cultural background, poverty, and remote disadvantage and increased risk of violence.
• Ability to align own practice to legislation and standards and can apply with discretion in areas of privacy and confidentiality, reporting, and information sharing.
• Personal values are strongly aligned to organisational values and strategic plan.
• Able to manage constant demands, dealing with the unexpected whilst remaining calm and focused, with a positive, can-do, and resourceful approach.
• Emotionally intelligent and aware, with a keen sense of critical self-reflection, able to keep a sense of perspective about the stories heard and remain connected as part of a resilient approach.

Mandatory Requirements

• Current QLD C Class Driver’s Licence.
• Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
• Australia: National Police Check Clearance – at organisation expense.
