Die Cutter Operator - Bobst / Eterna

About the Role

Opal Specialty Packaging is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Die Cutter Operator with experience operating Bobst or Eterna flatbed die-cutters to join our team at the Orchard Hills facility.

In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for setting up, running, and maintaining high-precision die-cutting machinery to produce premium corrugated and specialty packaging solutions. You will play a key part in ensuring our production targets, quality standards, and customer delivery timelines are consistently met.

This is a day shift role working Monday – Thursday 6am – 2.30pm and Friday 6am – 12pm.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform efficient, accurate set-ups, make-readies, and operation of Bobst or Eterna flatbed die-cutting machines.
• Conduct regular quality checks to ensure precise cutting, creasing, stripping, and blanking according to job specifications and customer requirements.
• Monitor machine performance to optimize run speeds, reduce waste, and minimize downtime while meeting strict production schedules.
• Inspect cutting dies, stripping tools, and counter-plates before and after runs; report and assist with basic tooling maintenance.
• Identify and resolve operational issues, registration errors, or board defects promptly during production runs.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance (cleaning, lubrication, blade inspection) and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Adhere strictly to Opal’s safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), machine guarding, and manual handling guidelines.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

• Proven experience operating Bobst (e.g., SPO / Visioncut / Novacut) or Eterna flatbed die-cutters within the corrugated, folding carton, or specialty packaging industries.
• Strong mechanical reasoning and understanding of board types, cutting geometry, creasing matrix selection, and stripping setups.
• High attention to detail with a commitment to producing defect-free packaging.
• Ability to troubleshoot machine settings and material variations on the fly.
• Strong communication skills, reliability, and a collaborative team attitude.
• Forklift Licence: A valid High Risk Work Licence (LF) is highly regarded.
