About the role
Are you passionate about making a difference for victims of crime? As a Victim Liaison Service Coordinator (VLS Coordinator), you’ll lead a dedicated team of Victim Liaison Officers across Queensland, ensuring exceptional service delivery and support. This state-wide role involves collaborating with key stakeholders like PACT, Queensland Homicide Victims Support Service, Queensland Courts, and the Queensland Police Service.
You’ll also provide vital assistance to Crown Prosecutors and Legal Officers, helping to navigate court events and deliver crucial victim information.
About us:
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a vital part of Queensland's justice system, representing the State in prosecuting criminal matters across courts such as the High Court of Australia, Supreme Court, District Court, and more. Our work addresses complex and sensitive legal matters, ensuring justice is upheld with professionalism and integrity.
About your opportunity:
This is an exciting temporary, flexible full-time opportunity from date of commencement for a period of 6 months, with possibility of extension. As a Victim Liaison Service Coordinator you will:
• Oversee service delivery in line with the Charter of Victim's Rights, Director's Guidelines, and the ODPP Victim Liaison Manual.
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
• Compile and analyse statistical reports to inform service improvements and decision-making.
• Mentor, guide, and provide advice to Victim Liaison Officers across the state.
• Prepare and deliver training programs to build the capability of the Victim Liaison Service team.
• Ensure ODPP procedures and staff effectively address the needs of victims of crime.
• Initiate contact with victims of violent crimes and provide support throughout the legal process.
• Oversee the quality, content, and timeliness of correspondence with victims, police officers, legal practitioners, court officers, government officials, and victims' families.
What we're looking for:
• A strong understanding of the interaction between victims of personal violence and the Criminal Justice System, including knowledge of relevant legislation.
• Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise and consult effectively with staff, stakeholders, and victims.
• Proven ability to develop reports, analyse statistical findings, and implement evidence-based recommendations.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
• Effective leadership capabilities, including the ability to motivate, mentor, and build the skills and resilience of victim liaison staff.
