• Based in Rockhampton and Gladstone QLD - working remotely if in Gladstone on occasion

• Base salary $84K - $103K + 15.4% ABC Nominated Super. 
• Fixed term contract for approximately 14 months, full time

The Role

ABC News is looking for a Reporter to join the ABC Capricornia team based in Gladstone or Rockhampton. You'll create engaging content across broadcast, digital and social platforms, covering everything from breaking news and emergency events to the stories that matter most to local communities. Working closely with colleagues you'll help deliver quality journalism that connects audiences locally and nationally. 

The Job 

• Create compelling news and current affairs content across multiple platforms.  
• Produce interviews, live crosses, news bulletins, Q&As and packaged stories.  
• Cover breaking news and contribute to emergency coverage when required.  
• Develop and pitch original story ideas that drive audience reach and engagement.  
• Build strong community connections and source stories that reflect the diversity of regional Australia.  
• Work collaboratively with teams across the ABC to share and develop content for local and national audiences.

About You 

You're a passionate journalist with strong editorial judgement, excellent storytelling skills and a genuine interest in regional and local issues. 

You'll have:  

• Demonstrated experience creating engaging news content and delivering stories across broadcast and digital platforms.  
• Strong editorial skills, including researching, sourcing information, analysing issues and exercising sound news judgement.  
• The ability to build and maintain strong community contacts and uncover stories that reflect Australia's diverse communities and perspectives 
• A current and valid Driver’s Licence
