Leading Hand/Foreperson

About the role

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to an experienced fabricator who can confidently supervise a workshop team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day fabrication and production. You will play a key role in coordinating workshop activities, maintaining productivity and quality, supporting your team, and ensuring jobs are completed safely, efficiently and to specification.

Key responsibilities

• Allocate jobs and coordinate daily workloads across the workshop

• Supervise and support workshop staff, ensuring work is completed efficiently and to required standards

• Monitor job progress, production schedules, deadlines and quality checks

• Coordinate workflow between fabrication, assembly and other workshop activities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, specifications and fabrication requirements

• Assess job requirements, including materials, labour, equipment and estimated timeframes

• Identify and resolve fabrication, production and workflow issues

• Monitor productivity and identify opportunities to improve workshop efficiency

• Liaise with management regarding job progress, priorities, resourcing and potential delays

• Provide practical guidance, training and support to workshop employees

About you

• Has solid experience in steel fabrication and manufacturing

• Has previous experience as a Leading Hand, Foreperson, Senior Fabricator or similar

• Has strong practical fabrication and welding skills

• Has a sound understanding of fabrication processes, production planning and quality control

• Can accurately assess fabrication requirements, materials, labour and job timeframes

• Has demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and support a workshop team

• Is confident making decisions and solving problems in a busy production environment

• Has excellent communication and organisational skills

• Has a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

• Is reliable, proactive and willing to take ownership of daily workshop operations
