Peri-anaesthesia Equipment Nurse – Anaesthetics & PACU

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Peri-anaesthesia Equipment Nurse to join our Anaesthetics and PACU team. This senior clinical role is integral to the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of peri-anaesthesia services across our dynamic, state-of-the-art Operating Suite. The Equipment Nurse provides advanced expertise in the management, coordination and optimisation of anaesthetic equipment, consumables, and medical devices, supporting both clinical teams and patient care outcomes.
OUR PATIENTS
Our Operating Suite provides comprehensive care for patients undergoing complex cancer surgery — from endoscopy to high-acuity robotic and multispecialty procedures. We care for patients across a breadth of specialties including colorectal, upper GI, hepatobiliary, breast, plastics, urology, melanoma and sarcoma, head & neck, and gynaecology. Patients also access specialised intraoperative treatments including brachytherapy and HIPEC.

THE ROLE: WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Step into a pivotal, fast-paced role at the heart of peri-anaesthesia service delivery. As the Peri-anaesthesia Equipment Nurse, you will:
Clinical & Operational Leadership
▪Manage and coordinate all anaesthesia and PACU equipment, consumables, and relevant service contracts
▪Troubleshoot equipment issues and support clinicians with technical guidance
▪Represent the Anaesthesia Service in organisational equipment governance forums
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with: Anaesthetists, Anaesthetic ANUMs, Biomedical Engineering, OS Equipment Nurses, CSSD/RMH, Supply & Procurement, Clinical Products Advisors, and vendor partners.
Inventory & Resource Management
Maintain optimal stock levels
Manage ordering, backorders, product recalls, and equipment servicing
Oversee tracking of loaned devices and compliance with infection prevention standards
Education, Quality & Safety
▪Provide training on equipment and consumables
▪Support policy development and evidence-based practice
▪Lead equipment trials and contribute to service innovation

ABOUT YOU (SELECTION CRITERIA)
You are a highly capable, forward-thinking clinician with:
▪AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
▪Minimum 4 years perioperative/perianaesthesia experience
▪Advanced knowledge of anaesthetics, PACU, and/or theatre environments
▪Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and prioritisation skills
▪Proven ability to manage equipment/resources in a complex healthcare setting
▪Excellent communication and collaborative skills
▪Commitment to excellence in patient care and multidisciplinary teamwork
▪Proficiency with digital health systems
Desirable:
Postgraduate studies, prior experience in a similar role, CNS recognition or equivalent, and experience contributing to quality improvement and policy development.
HOURS & REPORTING
•Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts
•Work every Tuesday on the 3rd Week of the month to attend CSPEC Meeting
•Reports directly to the Nurse Unit Manager – Anaesthetics/PACU

The Peter MacCallum Operating Suite is a modern surgical environment with eight Operating Theatres, an Anaesthesia Department and a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU). It delivers comprehensive peri‑operative care for cancer surgery patients through a multidisciplinary model supported by specialised, purpose‑built facilities.
The Peri‑anaesthesia Equipment Nurse is a senior clinician with advanced expertise in peri‑anaesthesia practice. This role is responsible for coordinating and managing the equipment, consumables and resources required for the Anaesthetic Service, and at times the High Acuity Team (HAT). The position demands high‑level clinical knowledge, strong time‑management, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a complex multidisciplinary environment.

| Essential Requirements |

▪ Demonstrates leadership and accountability for all equipment- and consumable-related requirements within the department. ▪ Liaises with nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team to identify equipment needs and coordinates the procurement of non-stock specialist items. ▪ Manages equipment maintenance, including oversight of service contracts for peri-anaesthesia equipment and related services.

Lead and Coordinate the Management of Prostheses (medical devices, i.e., CVADS) | •Collaborates with Anaesthetists and Company Representatives to coordinate the ordering and procurement of medical devices, ensuring selections align with clinical requirements, safety standards and organisational priorities. •Monitors the utilisation of medical devices to ensure appropriate, safe and cost effective use, and identifies trends or issues requiring further action. •Provides oversight of billing processes related to medical devices to ensure accurate charging and timely realisation of prosthetic rebate revenue. |
