Purchasing officer

About the role

To efficiently manage and organise the preparation of purchase orders, monitor supply sources and negotiate pricing with suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Procure raw materials, packaging components, consumables, and other operational requirements in line with business needs.

• Create, manage, and maintain purchase orders through both manual and MRP-generated processes.

• Liaise with suppliers to obtain pricing, confirm lead times, track orders, and follow up on backorders.

• Monitor inventory levels and maintain accurate lead time data within the inventory management system.

• Ensure timely delivery of goods and proactively communicate potential supply issues, stock outages, or delays to internal stakeholders.

• Build and maintain effective supplier relationships to support quality, service, cost, and continuity of supply.

• Source and evaluate new suppliers and alternative supply options to mitigate supply risk and support business requirements.

• Work with suppliers to ensure the most appropriate and cost-effective materials are utilised.

• Monitor material quality and coordinate product returns or corrective actions where supplied goods do not meet specifications.

• Support warehouse operations by assisting with stock receipting processes and providing training where required.

About you

• Unrestricted and ongoing right to work in Australia

• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to process and analyse data quickly and effectively

• Ability to manage own workload, meet deadlines and remain focussed

• Excellent attention to detail, problem solving, planning and analytical skills

• Experience understanding of MS Office with strong technical skills, with proficiency in MRS and data management tools

• Self-motivated

• Demonstrated understanding of GMP & WHS requirements

• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

• Ability to build and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders internal and external

• Strong customer service orientation
