Transport for NSW
About the role
You're agile, keen and open to meaningful work and opportunities that come your way.
You've been developing your skills and are ready to work on projects that matter to the people of NSW. You know that quality matters and that delivering results requires a great team.
In this role, you'll:
Join a project shaping a smarter, more sustainable rail network. The Tangara Fleet Life Extension program is a key initiative that will upgrade operating systems, modernise passenger information systems, and improve accessibility for mobility-impaired customers—supporting the long-term future of Sydney's rail network.
Join our team at the Auburn Heavy Maintenance Centre as a Trade Assistant. We currently have three temporary opportunities available, with contract terms ranging from 11 to 22 months. These positions support the development of a skilled future workforce, strengthen local communities, and contribute to the ongoing success of NSW's transport industry.
Key responsibilities include:
• Picking, labelling, and packaging components into kits for project dispatch
• Conducting cycle counts and performing general warehouse duties
• Organising parts accurately and maintaining clean, efficient storage areas
• Supporting compliance and dispatch processes
• Collaborating closely with supply chain and planning teams
• Applying mechanical aptitude to identify, handle, and prepare stock
• Contributing to safe and efficient logistics operations with strong attention to detail
For more information, please refer to the Role Description and the Sydney Trains Fleet Maintenance Candidate Information Pack.
About you
You are a safety-focused, hands-on team player who thrives in a fast-paced maintenance environment. You bring experience supporting trades personnel across multiple disciplines, contributing to both technical and customer-focused outcomes. You're a practical team player with solid warehouse or supply chain experience and a sharp eye for detail. You know your way around warehousing systems and can recognise and organise mechanical parts with confidence
You are confident working independently, managing your time effectively to meet deadlines. At the same time, you are highly collaborative, working seamlessly with trades and stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient operations while maintaining high standards.
