About the opportunity
The Technical Officer will work within the School of Natural Sciences (SNS), primarily within the Field and Fleet area, but will also provide cross-disciplinary technical support across all areas of the School including undergraduate teaching laboratories, research laboratories, and other research facilities, to ensure smooth and safe operations that support the School’s teaching and research objectives. The School of Natural Sciences trains the next generation of leaders in science, technology, and mathematics—disciplines that underpin Australia’s future capability and innovation.
The Technical Officer will assist the Operations Manager and Senior Field and Fleet Officer in managing the day-to-day operations of the School, ensuring the effective and safe delivery of teaching and research activities. The role provides operational, teaching, and training support to staff and students while maintaining compliance with relevant UTAS policies, statutory Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, and codes of practice.
To be successful in this role, it is essential to demonstrate flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and an approachable manner. This position requires working collaboratively across a broad technical team and being open to receiving and undertaking tasks in a flexible and responsive manner from various leaders. This is a diverse and dynamic role, offering the opportunity to contribute across a wide range of UTAS facilities and environments.

Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $105,665 comprising base salary within the range of $80,869 to $90,312 plus 17% superannuation.
