Boilermaker / Welder — Structural Steel — Wingfield OTE ~$130k

Most boilermaker ads quote you an hourly rate. Here is the number that actually matters: the blokes in this workshop are taking home around $130,000 a year, because the overtime is real and it has been running every week for three and a half years.

The business

A family-owned Adelaide steel fabrication and structural erection business, operating out of Wingfield since 1987. Just over 40 people across the workshop, the erection crews and the office. Commercial and residential structural steel, ACRS-accredited material, work booked well ahead.

Small enough that you will know the owner's name. Big enough that the work does not run out.

The job

Structural steel fabrication in the workshop. Beams, columns, cleats, bracing, stairs and platforms, cut, fitted and welded off shop drawings. Everything you make gets erected by the company's own crews, so you see your own work go up.

The hours

→ 5:30am to 2:00pm, Monday to Friday

→ Two hours overtime most days, finishing at 4:00pm

→ Saturdays 5:30am to 4:00pm when the work is on

→ 12 to 15 hours of overtime a week is normal

The overtime is available, not compulsory. Nobody gets forced onto a Saturday. But it is there every week, it has been there for three and a half years, and the people who take it are the ones on the big

The rate

$40 to $50 an hour, negotiable based on your experience, plus super. Overtime on top.

Bring the right ticket and the right track record and there is room to move inside that band. Come in green and you start at the bottom of it and earn your way up.

What you need

→ Cert III Engineering (Fabrication) or recognised trade e

→ Structural steel experience and the ability to work off shop drawings on your own

→ MIG on structural sections

→ Full Australian working rights

Handy to have: leading hand or fabrication checking experience, heavier structural background.

The start is 5:30am, every day.
