About the role
Evo Solar is looking for an experienced Trade Assistant / Solar Roof Installer to join our installation team.
This is a hands-on rooftop role working alongside our accredited electricians on residential solar and battery installations throughout Geelong, the Surf Coast and Melbourne.

This is not an entry-level trade assistant position.
Experience, maturity, attention to detail and the ability to work independently are extremely important to us.
The successful applicant will work closely with our electricians but will take a leading role in the setup and installation of:
Safety rail and edge protection
Solar panel mounting systems
Rooftop racking
Solar panels
Roof penetrations and mounting points
Array set-out and measurements
Our qualified electricians will complete the electrical components of the installation, while you will be responsible for making sure the rooftop installation is accurately measured, correctly set out, securely mounted and ready for electrical works.
What you’ll be doingYour day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Assessing roof layouts and installation areas
Measuring and setting out solar panel arrays from approved designs
Identifying rafters, battens, trusses and suitable structural fixing locations
Installing roof hooks, feet and other mounting hardware
Installing and levelling solar racking systems

Installing and removing temporary safety rail and edge-protection systems
Ensuring all safety equipment is correctly positioned and securely installed
Working on tile, Colorbond and other common residential roofing systems
Removing and replacing roof tiles where required

Understanding how mounting systems interact with the existing roof structure
Following manufacturer installation instructions and fixing requirements
Ensuring solar arrays are straight, accurately positioned and professionally finished

Maintaining tools, equipment and vehicles
Keeping installation sites safe, organised and clean
Identifying roof defects or construction issues before commencing work
Communicating clearly with the site supervisor and electricians throughout each installation

You may currently be working, or have previously worked, as a:
Trade assistant
Roofer
Roof plumber
Carpenter
Builder’s labourer
Solar panel installer
Solar trade assistant
Racking installer
Scaffolder / edge-protection installer
Construction worker with extensive roof experience
You do not need to be an electrician.

Has strong previous building, construction, roofing or solar installation experience
Is highly experienced and confident working on residential roofs
Understands basic residential construction methods
Can identify rafters, trusses, battens and structural fixing points

Roofing experience
Carpentry experience
Roof plumbing experience

EWP or other relevant construction tickets
Experience with tile and metal roofs
Experience supervising or leading other trade assistants / roof installers
Although you'll be working alongside our accredited electricians, we want someone who can take ownership of the rooftop installation process.
You should be capable of looking at the approved solar design, assessing the roof and then confidently managing:
Measure → Set out → Safety rail → Feet → Racking → Panels → Finish
You will need to make sure the work is completed accurately and in accordance with:
Manufacturer requirements
Relevant installation standards
Evo Solar installation procedures
Workplace safety requirements
Approved system designs
We don't want someone who needs to be constantly told what to do.
We're looking for someone experienced enough to see what needs doing, communicate with the team and get the job completed properly.
