About the role
Alliance Distribution Services (ADS) is a leading book distribution company in Australia & New Zealand, providing comprehensive distribution services, and exceptional customer service to our client publishers and their bookselling customers. ADS is fully owned and operated by Hachette Australia.
We are seeking a reliable a Supply Chain Coordinator who is responsible for coordinating domestic and international freight activities, managing supplier performance, and supporting sourcing and supplier selection initiatives. Working closely with Operations, this role ensures products delivered efficiently, cost-effectively, and on time while maintaining strong supplier relationships and supporting business growth.
Responsibilities
Logistics and Freight Coordination
Coordinate domestic and international freight movements across road, air, and sea freight channels.
Arrange transport bookings and manage shipment schedules.
Monitor deliveries and proactively resolve delays, shortages, and service issues.
Ensure compliance with import, export, customs, and freight documentation requirements.
Maintain accurate freight records, shipment tracking, and logistics reporting.
Liaise with freight providers and logistics partners to achieve service and cost objectives.
Supplier Management
Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and service providers.
Monitor supplier performance against agreed service, quality, delivery, and cost expectations.
Conduct supplier reviews and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Investigate and resolve supplier-related issues that impact operational performance.
Support supplier risk management and supply continuity planning.
Supplier Selection and Procurement Support
Assist with the identification, evaluation, and onboarding of new suppliers.
Support quotation, tender, and supplier assessment activities.
Analyse supplier performance, pricing, lead times, and capabilities to support sourcing decisions.
Maintain supplier records, contracts, and supporting documentation.
Contribute to supplier development and strategic sourcing initiatives.
Operations and Inventory Support
Work closely with Operations to ensure the timely availability of materials and products.
Support inventory planning and replenishment activities.
Assist with forecasting and demand planning processes.
Provide reporting and supply chain performance insights to support decision-making.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Previous experience in a supply chain, logistics, procurement, or freight coordination role.
Experience coordinating both domestic and international freight.
Strong supplier relationship management skills.
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Strong problem-solving and analytical capability.
High level of organisation and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Personal Attributes:
Ability to communicate and build positive working relationship with contacts at all levels.
Excellent communication skills demonstrated with internal and external stakeholders
Organised, disciplined and a strong attention to detail.
Self-disciplined and ability to work with minimal supervision & able to work well in a team environment.
