About the role
About the Company The client is a well-established aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organisation specialising in both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. Based in Cairns, Far North Queensland, their growing heavy maintenance facility is looking for a skilled and motivated B2 avionics engineer to join the team. Role Overview This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working directly on aircraft and takes pride in delivering high-quality work. You will be involved in a range of avionics activities, including installations, modifications, troubleshooting, testing and line maintenance. The company is looking for an engineer who can confidently manage the complete installation process, from preparing equipment and wiring through to installation, testing, fault-finding and certification. Experience working with Part 21 design and engineering organisations would be highly regarded. Aircraft type ratings are preferred but not essential. Key Responsibilities Carry out avionics installations and modifications. Perform line maintenance and rectify aircraft defects. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and avionics faults. Install and modify aircraft wiring, looms, connectors, antennas and avionics equipment. Manufacture and terminate aircraft wiring looms. Carry out avionics upgrades and equipment integration. Work with Part 21 organisations to implement approved modifications. Perform functional, continuity and system testing. Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and approved technical data. Carry out scheduled and unscheduled B2 maintenance. Provide AOG and operational maintenance support as required. Complete maintenance records and certification in line with CASA requirements and approved technical data. Requirements Strong practical aircraft avionics installation experience. Experience with aircraft electrical and avionics fault finding. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics and technical documentation. High standard of workmanship and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to aviation safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Current Australian driver's licence. Licences & Qualifications Essential: CASA B2 avionics engineer licence or recognised equivalent. Employment is subject to obtaining the required aviation security clearance and successfully completing all necessary screening checks. Experience Preferred: line maintenance experience. Experience working with Part 21 design and engineering organisations, including implementing approved modifications and engineering data. Aircraft modification and avionics upgrade experience. Aircraft wiring loom manufacture and termination. Experience with Garmin, Collins, Honeywell, BendixKing or similar avionics equipment. Good knowledge of EFIS, GPS/GNSS, communication and navigation systems. CASA-approved maintenance organisation experience. Experience providing AOG and operational maintenance support. Aircraft experience (type ratings not essential, highly regarded): DHC-6 Twin Otter, ATR 42/72, Beechcraft B200 / King Air, Bell 212 / Bell 412, BK117, Bell 206 / Bell 407. Experience on other fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft will also be considered. What We Offer Hands-on avionics work in a growing heavy maintenance facility in Far North Queensland.
