About the role

Heavy Maintenance Australia Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Truck Mechanic to join our growing team in Riverview, QLD. This is a full-time position offering flexible shift options to suit your lifestyle – you can choose between a traditional Monday to Friday schedule or an 8-day on, 6-day off roster. As a Truck Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing our fleet of heavy vehicles, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. Your expertise will be essential in minimising downtime and supporting the operational success of Heavy Maintenance Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and servicing on heavy trucks, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid top-ups and general inspections

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment and technical knowledge

• Repair and replace faulty components including engines, transmissions, suspension systems, brakes and hydraulic systems

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements

• Keep detailed maintenance records and documentation for all work completed on vehicles

• Collaborate with other mechanics and workshop staff to ensure efficient completion of repairs and maintenance tasks

• Adhere to all workplace health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, organised work environment

• Identify potential mechanical issues before they become serious problems and communicate recommendations to management

What we're looking for

• Formal qualification or apprenticeship in automotive mechanics, diesel mechanics or heavy vehicle mechanics

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience working on heavy trucks, buses or similar commercial vehicles

• Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, transmission, braking systems and suspension components

• Competence in using diagnostic equipment and mechanical tools, both hand-held and power tools

• Understanding of vehicle maintenance schedules and the ability to follow technical manuals and service guidelines

• Current driver's licence (class C or equivalent minimum)

• Physical fitness and ability to work in various positions, including under vehicles and in confined spaces

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• Team player mentality with the ability to work independently when required

• Knowledge of heavy vehicle regulations and compliance requirements is highly desirable
