Foot and Leg Pain Centre
About the role
Run the show at a practice worth running
The Foot and Leg Pain Centre is a long-established specialist podiatry practice in Dural, founded by Dr Angus Chard PhD in 1993 and fully renovated in 2018. We deliver state-of-the-art, evidence-based treatment for chronic foot and leg pain, caring for around 380 patients a month across four podiatrists — our purpose is restoring physical freedom, and our patients feel the difference from the moment they walk in. Located in the friendly, village-like community of Dural, the practice enjoys a welcoming atmosphere, plentiful cafés nearby and on-site parking.
We are looking for one person to own the front of house and the day-to-day running of the practice — not to sit at a desk and wait for instructions. This role suits an experienced, emotionally mature professional who wants to make a role their own and take genuine responsibility for how a small business runs day to day. You will work directly with the Principal and the clinical team, with real ownership of the front of house from day one.
Our values
• Team First — we are humble, quick to help, and ready to collaborate
• Credibility & Integrity — we balance evidence with experience
• Play Above the Line — we do what we say we will do; sometimes more, never less
• World Class — we are committed to a world-class experience and world-class outcomes
What you will own
• The patient experience — you are the first voice on the phone and the first face at the door. Warm, welcoming and unflappable, with patients aged 8 to 80, many of them in pain and some of them anxious. Your steadiness sets the tone of the room.
• The diary and the phones — bookings, rebookings, recalls and confirmations across two phone lines. We are a pick-up-the-phone practice: if something can be solved with a call, you make the call rather than playing email tennis.
• Billing and reconciliation — charging patients accurately, daily payment reconciliation, and invoicing across private, HICAPS, Medicare EPC, DVA, NDIS and workers compensation accounts.
• Supplies and logistics — ordering, receiving and maintaining clinical and office supplies so the practice never runs short.
• Compliance coordination — scheduling and coordinating annual compliance matters including steriliser calibration, and fire inspections matters.
• Practice presentation — a medical-grade environment maintained daily. This includes hands-on basic cleaning — floors, bathroom, surfaces, laundry. It is part of the role, stated plainly, because it matters to patient trust.
Read this part carefully — it is how we hire
Three things about this role are non-negotiable, and we would rather you self-select now than discover them in week two:
• Numbers are daily work. You will charge patients, split costs across item numbers, balance a till and reconcile payments every day. You need to be genuinely comfortable with arithmetic — not just able to use a calculator, but confident interpreting what it tells you. We test this during selection.
• Excel and Word are essential, not desirable. You will maintain spreadsheets, produce documents and work within our systems (Cliniko practice management, HICAPS/Tyro). We test this too.
• We work to scripts and procedures. Consistency is how a healthcare practice stays safe and premium. If structure feels restrictive rather than supportive, this will not be the right environment for you. Once you know our systems, we actively want your improvements — but systems first, style second.
Who thrives here
• Emotionally mature and steady — a calming, reassuring presence for anxious patients and a settling influence on a busy team
• Reliable and trustworthy — the practice runs on your word
• Solutions-focused with strong initiative — you notice, you act, you follow through
• A self-starter who manages their own day without supervision
• Detail-obsessed — in bookings, billing and presentation
• A natural cultural custodian — happy, warm and welcoming to patients and team alike
• A people person who would rather pick up the phone than send an email
• A strong, clear communicator, well presented and professional
What you bring
• Minimum three years — preferably five — in front-of-house roles (medical or allied health reception highly regarded)
• Confident Excel and Word skills (essential)
• Experience with patient/customer billing; NDIS, DVA or workers compensation invoicing an advantage
• The professional maturity and composure to be trusted with money, keys, confidential records and the tone of the practice
• Comfort in a busy, coalface, dynamic environment — our front desk is never dull
Hours and package
• Full-time, 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• Rostered to patient load between 8:30am and 6:00pm
• $80,000 – $90,000 total package, inclusive of superannuation, commensurate with experience
• On-site parking; village café atmosphere in the friendly Dural community
How to apply — instructions matter
Apply via SEEK with your résumé and a cover letter. Your cover letter must answer this question:
“Tell us about a time something went wrong at work that was not your fault — and what you did about it anyway.”
Applications without a cover letter, or without an answer to this question, will not be progressed. This is our first test of attention to detail — and of how you think.
