Our Learning Environment
In recent years, Brisbane Grammar School carefully audited and reviewed its curriculum frameworks and practices. Our curriculum design processes are led by teachers who continually grow and refine their teaching skills. As a result, we are committed to systematically developing effective thinking cultures within all classrooms and staffrooms. We plan learning experiences in the language of student thinking and cognition and give feedback and guide learner improvement through distinct values of inquiry. The School has a well-supported and pedagogically advanced Tablet PC program, with all students in Years 7 to 12 enabled for one-to-one learning. Teachers are encouraged to work together to use technology and space in innovative ways, ensuring adaptive and transformative curriculum delivery. We are growing our capacity to identify and analyse relevant data that helps our teachers to respond to their students’ learning needs. In addition, the explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy informs curriculum design and classroom practice.

About the Role

Brisbane Grammar School seeks an outstanding and energetic Physical Education teacher who is passionate about enhancing student learning through the purposeful integration of sports science, technology, performance analysis and evidence-informed practice.

This position provides an exciting opportunity to join a progressive Physical Education Department that is committed to developing students' understanding of movement, performance, health and physical literacy through contemporary teaching approaches and access to a state-of-the-art Sports Science Laboratory.

We are seeking a teacher who is curious, innovative and driven to explore how sports science can enrich learning experiences, develop students' data literacy, and deepen their understanding of human performance. The successful candidate will be a collaborative educator who contributes to curriculum development and embraces opportunities to lead initiatives within the department.

All teachers at Brisbane Grammar School contribute collegially to the development of resources that both support learning and extend the boys’ understanding of the subject areas. Familiarity with the relevant Syllabuses is essential.

Position Purpose

As the Teacher you will:

• Plan, prepare and deliver effective learning and teaching programs for every student in allocated classes and groups.

• Contribute to developing and implementing the school objectives and planning.

• Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive school environment.

Teachers are accountable to and under the direction of the Head of Department, Deputy Headmaster Teaching and Learning and the Headmaster.

Key Responsibilities

As the Teacher you will have responsibility for the following:

• Plan, prepare and deliver quality and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers; and relevant syllabi, curriculum policies, work programs and educational trends.

• Maintain teaching competency and currency of knowledge of relevant curriculum programs as required by the department or other relevant statutory authorities.

• Support students through interaction with them in various settings and through the active development of supportive learning environments and effective behaviour management practices.

• Provide for students' physical, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing and physical safety whilst at school and enhance their overall development aligned with the Schools vision.

• Assess students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.

• Maintain student records and samples of work and report on student performance.

• Update curriculum professional development.

• Participate and collaborate in development and evaluation of curriculum.

• Participate it teacher development program and professional development.

• Participate in the cocurricular program of the School.

• Adhere to the Code of Conduct (Staff) and School Policies

• Participate as appropriate, in school decision making processes and professional development.

Excellence and Professional Contribution in Physical Education

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Excellence in Physical Education teaching, including the capacity to design and deliver engaging, evidence-informed learning experiences that promote movement proficiency, critical thinking, physical literacy and meaningful student improvement.
• A commitment to innovation in learning, demonstrated through the purposeful use of contemporary pedagogy, assessment practices and sports science technology to deepen students’ understanding of movement, performance and health.
• Knowledge of, or a willingness to develop capability in, applied sports science, including the use of performance testing, movement analysis and data-informed feedback to enhance student learning within the Physical Education curriculum.
• The capacity to translate sports science concepts and performance data into accessible and educationally meaningful learning experiences appropriate to students’ developmental needs.
• A commitment to ongoing professional learning and reflective practice, including engagement with emerging research, curriculum developments and innovative practices in Physical Education.
• A commitment to the service and advancement of the profession through active engagement with relevant professional associations, curriculum authorities and educational networks. This may include contributing to organisations and initiatives such as QCAA syllabus development, endorsement, confirmation or external assessment processes, ACHPER Queensland, professional conferences, teacher networks and other forms of professional leadership.
• A willingness to share expertise and contribute collegially, both within the School and across the broader Physical Education profession, through collaboration, mentoring, resource development and the dissemination of effective practice.

Essential Skills and Requirements

• Current full registration, or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
• Demonstrated capacity in classroom management.
• Capacity to operate as a collaborative and team-oriented person in a professional work environment.
• Capacity and willingness to contribute to the welfare of students.
• Understanding of and commitment to the ethos of independent schooling.
• Capacity and willingness to contribute to the School’s co-curricular program.
• Capacity in the teaching of higher-order thinking.
• Competency in the use of ICT, and its integration into the curriculum (blended learning).
• Willingness to be involved in professional development opportunities as they arise.
