About the role
At Nectr, we're committed to delivering exceptional customer outcomes while maintaining strong regulatory compliance across our retail electricity operations. We're seeking an experienced Compliance Specialist to own and continuously improve our operational compliance framework.
Reporting to the Compliance & Industry Manager, you will be responsible for regulatory reporting, compliance assurance, obligations management, incident governance, compliance procedure documentation, and regulatory change implementation across the business. You will act as the subject matter expert for retail energy and customer protection obligations, ensuring compliance requirements are effectively embedded into operational processes and controls.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in Australia's retail energy sector who enjoys combining regulatory knowledge, data analysis, process improvement, and stakeholder engagement to deliver practical compliance outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
· Own the Compliance Obligations Register and ensure regulatory obligations are appropriately documented, assigned, controlled and evidenced.
· Own the preparation, quality assurance and governance of regulatory reporting, including AER, ESC, GreenPower, CDR and other regulatory reporting obligations.
· Own the compliance incident management framework, including investigation, breach assessment, root cause analysis and remediation tracking.
· Maintain compliance-sensitive procedures and ensure controls are appropriately documented and reviewed.
· Develop and execute a compliance assurance and internal audit program.
· Monitor regulatory reforms and support implementation of new obligations across the business.
· Partner with Technology and Data teams to improve reporting efficiency, automation and data quality.
· Provide compliance advice and support to operational, product, marketing and technology teams.
· Support the development and delivery of compliance training and awareness initiatives.
Minimum Experience Requirements
· 3+ years' experience in an operations, compliance or assurance role within the Australian energy industry.
· Practical knowledge of retail energy regulation and customer protection frameworks.
· Experience preparing, reviewing or managing regulatory reporting.
· Experience investigating compliance incidents and conducting root cause analysis.
· Experience maintaining compliance registers, procedures or governance documentation.
· Demonstrated ability to engage with operational stakeholders and influence outcomes.
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess data quality and identify exceptions.
· Excellent written communication and report-writing skills.
Location: this candidate can be located anywhere in the NEM. Melbourne/Sydney preferred.
