The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. Youth Justice is committed to the demonstration of the Victorian Public Sector values. The values are: responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.

Youth justice custodial precincts accommodate young people aged 12-18 years who have been remanded or sentenced by the Criminal Division of the Children's Court, and some 18-21 year olds sentenced by Adult Courts to youth justice.

Operational Policy and Workforce deliver strategic and operational support to Youth Justice frontline custodial and community workforces across reform, policy implementation, staff capability, compliance, and workforce support. 

This work helps promote consistent practice, legislative compliance, and effective service delivery.

The Opportunity

• An ongoing full-time VPS 4 role: $100,894 - $114,476 per year plus superannuation.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in psychology, social work or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in delivering engaging clinical training to frontline operational staff, using sound knowledge of child and youth development, cultural safety and trauma-informed practice in Youth Justice or comparable settings
• Experience exercising professional judgement to develop and adapt targeted learning interventions within departmental guidelines
• Experience coaching and providing constructive feedback to frontline operational staff.
• Capacity to adapt facilitation style and content to diverse audiences and operational settings, and to manage delivery effectively across multiple locations.
• A current driver's licence is required, as the role involves regular travel to regional offices and precincts to deliver training.

You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check, which you will need to maintain for the period of employment.
