FINANCIAL CONTROLLER / CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Own Financial Operations and Strategic Direction Across a Multi-Brand Education & Technology Group Remote | Full-time

Clean Health Group is seeking a hands-on, commercially sharp Financial Controller/Chief Financial Officer to own financial operations, reporting and strategic financial direction across our group of nationally recognised education brands — including the Australian Institute of Fitness (AIF), VAST Nutrition Academy, and Clean Health Institute. This is a hands-on role where operational rigour meets genuine commercial partnership with both our founder and CEO.

As we scale toward our ambitious goal of certifying 1 million+ professionals by 2030, we need a finance leader who can keep us funded, compliant and commercially sharp — hands-on, across a lean, multi-entity group.

The Role

You will take ownership of the finance function end-to-end, conducting core financial operations — month-end close, cash flow, payroll and journaling — while sitting on the executive team as a trusted advisor to our founder and CEO. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is not a traditional, reporting-focused CFO position: you’ll be as comfortable running the books as you are shaping financial strategy. We are an AI-forward business, and this role is central to that direction — we’re looking for someone who brings genuine AI and automation capability to the finance function, not just an interest in it.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Operations & Month-End: Personally conduct and lead the team in the end-of-month close process across CHG and all associated entities, including journaling, reconciliations, and consolidated management and board reporting.
• Cash Flow & Capital Management: Own short- and long-term cash flow forecasting and liquidity management, and manage intercompany funding across the Group’s entities.
• Payroll, AP/AR & Compliance: Oversee end-to-end payroll (Employment Hero), accounts payable and receivable, and debtor management, ensuring full compliance across BAS, IAS, payroll tax, superannuation, and statutory reporting.
• Systems, Automation & AI: Drive automation and AI-enabled improvement across finance systems and reporting, and project-manage systems implementations from business case through to delivery.
• RTO Funding & Audit: Work closely with the RTO side of the business on funding forecasting and financial viability requirements under ASQA, and lead audit preparation as primary liaison with external auditors.
• Team Leadership: Lead and develop a small, remote finance team, building capability and scalable processes as the Group grows.
• Strategic & Growth Support: Partner with the CEO on budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning, and support financial due diligence should the Group pursue future M&A or growth opportunities.

Who You Are

You are CA or CPA qualified, with demonstrated experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Director or CFO capacity. You have a track record of building or running lean, high-performing finance functions, ideally in an SME, founder-led, or multi-entity environment. You are genuinely hands-on and comfortable personally performing close, reconciliation, and payroll work, not only reviewing it. You bring real competency using AI tools within a finance function, with a demonstrated ability to identify and implement automation opportunities, particularly within reporting. You have the confidence to operate as a genuine business partner to a high-performing, hands-on founder and CEO, and experience managing remote or geographically dispersed teams.
