VIC Communications Officer - Graphic Design

Position overview:

Under broad direction, and as part of the VIC Media and Comms Team, lead our social media presence and produce high-impact visual content that supports workers in the construction industry.

This is a hands-on role for a strong content creator with graphic design skills who thrives in a fast-paced campaign environment.

This position will work closely with the National Media and Communications Team.

Training/qualifications:

• Minimum 3+ years’ experience in social media, digital communications or content creation.

Required skills, knowledge, experience & attributes:

• Strong graphic design skills (Highly advanced in Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, InDesign & Illustrator. Decent skills in AfterEffects, Premiere, Lightroom and Photography will be a definite advantage)
• Must have experience in magazine design and layout      
• Experience creating social-first content, graphics and video
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• A strong understanding of digital strategy and audience engagement
• The ability to work under pressure during industrial or media events
• Motion graphics capability is an advantage.
• Good judgement, a willingness to learn, and proactive
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently
• Excellent time management skills
• Attention to detail
• A commitment to the trade union movement

Role Accountabilities:

• Develop and execute social media strategies aligned with union priorities
• Manage content calendars across multiple platforms
• Produce high-quality graphics, digital ads and campaign branding
• Create short-form social video content (Reels/TikTok)
• Create graphics for print materials such as posters, stickers
• Design and layout the Vic Branch CFMEU journals
• Monitor trends and emerging digital opportunities
• Track performance and deliver monthly insights and recommendations
• You will work closely with Organisers, safety officers and leadership to ensure messaging is clear, consistent and impactful.
