Parking Officer

About the opportunity

No two days are the same as a Parking Officer with Byron Shire Council. Working in a team, you'll patrol roads, parks and public spaces across the Shire, helping ensure parking arrangements are applied fairly and consistently in line with Council policies and legislation.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys being out and about, solving problems, interacting with the community and staying calm under pressure. While enforcement is an important part of the role, you'll spend much of your day assisting residents and visitors, answering questions and helping people understand parking requirements. You'll also spend significant time driving between locations, so being comfortable in a vehicle for extended periods is essential.

Availability to work a rotating roster across Monday to Sunday, including weekends and public holidays, is required.

What you'll be doing

• Patrol allocated areas throughout the Byron Shire and enforce parking regulations.
• Investigate parking concerns and respond to enquiries from the community.
• Issue infringement notices in accordance with legislation, Council policies and procedures.
• Maintain accurate records, reports and enforcement documentation.
• Use handheld technology and other systems to undertake inspections and issue infringements.
• Provide high-quality customer service and communicate professionally with a diverse range of people.
• Work independently while contributing positively to a supportive team environment.
• Adapt to changing priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced operational setting.
• Assist with legal documentation and court proceedings where required.

What we look for

• A current unrestricted manual driver's licence.
• Demonstrated customer service experience.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.
• The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Confidence using computers, mobile technology and handheld devices.
• Knowledge of the Australian Road Rules.
• SEINS (Self Enforcing Infringement Notices System) training, or the ability to obtain it within one month of commencement.
• Availability to work a rotating roster across 7 days, including weekend and public holidays.
• The ability to spend extended periods working from a vehicle and adapt to working with a variety of personalities.

Highly regarded:

• Previous parking, compliance, regulatory or enforcement experience.
• Traffic Control Ticket.
• Experience using infringement or regulatory management systems.

• 12-month term position, working full-time (38 hours) on a 9-day fortnight. Possibility of extension.
• Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $1,237.66 to $1,434.02 per week full time equivalent (dependent upon skills and experience), plus weekend and public holiday rates.

Location: You will work in Mullumbimby and our Depot in Byron Bay, however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
