Loop Hydrometallurgy
About the role
· Paid award rate based on qualification level and experience
· Casual position, 6+ months
· Shift work (afternoon/evening – no nights)
· Macquarie Park (onsite only)
The Loop Hydrometallurgy group is conducting world-leading research in clean minerals processing technology. Based out of the Macquarie University DeepTech Incubator, we are conducting a three-year commercialisation program including laboratory, pilot plant and demonstration plant research. This is an exciting programme of cutting-edge industrial R&D.
We are looking for a Research Lab Technician to participate in a detailed metallurgical R&D project, focussed on clean production methods for the production of high purity copper metal. The successful candidate will participate in the operation of key experimental prototype on a morning and/or afternoon-shift basis (automated for limited overnight operation). They will monitor the experiment and multiple items of instrumentation closely, ensure that it stays within operating parameters, and enact running repairs / fixes as needed.
High performers at Loop Hydromet may be offered long-term roles in the operation of further apparatus and facilities during scale up and commercialisation, including the opportunity for international postings.
The ideal candidate MUST have:
· significant handy-person skills and experience with tools, machinery, basic plumbing and/or electrical items (electrical trade qualifications not required), generally the hands-on skills that make a lab ‘tick’,
· basic training in laboratory operations and safety: a TAFE Diploma of Lab Technology (Chemistry) would be idea, but Cert III acceptable,
· a practical problem-solving approach to technical challenges,
· a proactive approach to everything you do,
· strong attention to detail,
· excellent attitude to safe work, for themselves and colleagues,
· clear and effective communications,
· effective record-keeping and documentation skills,
· attention to laboratory cleanliness and hygiene, and
· the candidate MUST be reliable.
The position will be morning/afternoon shift work for an initial 6-month casual role, no night shifts. Note that student visas (limited work hours) are not suitable for this role.
This is a hands-on industrial R&D role. Our overwhelming need is for a handy-person, and so we will not be considering candidates with advanced degrees for this role. Due to the limited initial period being offered (subject to further funding becoming available), we are only considering Sydney-based candidates for this role.
