The CICADA Centre NSW offers Care and Intervention for Children and Adolescents affected by drugs and alcohol. A lifespan care approach, based in a tertiary paediatric hospital, is delivered through three clinical services: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Service, Family Service and Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Service. Quality improvement, research, teaching and education are essential parts of the CICADA service. 

The FASD Service provides clinical assessment for children and adolescents with a history of prenatal alcohol exposure or whom a diagnosis of FASD is suspected. This includes a developmental multidisciplinary assessment, formulation of a diagnostic report and recommendations for ongoing support and intervention. 

The Clinic Co-ordinator will ensure effective intake and triage for the clinic, collaboration of referral information, clinician allocation, and collaboration. They will liaise with referring clinicians, family members, health professionals, education, and family and community services to collate medical, social, and neurocognitive assessments to facilitate the FASD clinical assessment. 

Additionally, the role involves liaison and referral to community supports, including access to NDIS as required, provision of expert clinical care and education to children and their families within a defined specialty, and a consultancy and educational focus forward-based nurses in the care of children and their families. In collaboration and consultation with key stakeholders, the Clinical Nurse Consultant will undertake primary responsibility for ongoing education, development, and evaluation of clinical practice.

1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a minimum of 5 years full time post qualification experience working in child development, child and family, adolescent health or child protection.
2. Relevant approved post registration qualification in field of practice or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
3. Proven clinical leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
4. Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
5. Demonstrated evidence of advanced clinical practice in the specialty area of child development, child and family, adolescent health or child protection, with specific interest in priority populations such as children in out of home care, exposed to drugs and alcohol, developmental disorders and/ or FASD.
6. Strong commitment to contribute to own and team professional development and act as a resource person and to mentor others within the specialty where required
7. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal and problem solving capabilities; able to work autonomously with clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team.
8. Demonstrated ability to exercise professional knowledge and judgement in providing complex care requirements of patients/clients in the speciality field.
