About the role
Full-time position | Hunter, Central Coast and Greater Sydney regions
Motion Group is a family-owned and operated company providing construction, fabrication, installation, project management, crane hire, and maintenance services across the commercial, agricultural, industrial, and mining sectors.
We pride ourselves on delivering safe, practical, and high-quality project outcomes through detailed planning, experienced personnel, modern equipment, and a commitment to working collaboratively with our clients.
As our project portfolio continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Installation Supervisor to join our team and lead the delivery of current and upcoming projects.
This is a hands-on site leadership position suited to an experienced structural steel professional who is comfortable leading from the front.
You will be responsible for supervising structural steel erection and installation activities, coordinating employees, subcontractors, cranes, plant, and materials, and ensuring that each project is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with drawings, specifications, quality requirements, and the project program.
You will work closely with Motion Group’s Project Managers, clients, builders, engineers, suppliers, and site teams to identify and resolve issues before they affect safety, quality, productivity, or project delivery.
The position will involve regular travel throughout the Hunter, Central Coast, Greater Sydney, and other project locations. Applicants must be willing to work away from home, generally Monday to Friday, when required by the project.
The successful applicant will be responsible for:

Providing hands-on support to installation crews while maintaining overall control of site activities.
Planning and coordinating labour, subcontractors, cranes, elevated work platforms, plant, equipment, materials, and deliveries.
Reviewing structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, erection sequences, lift plans, and other project documentation before commencing work.
Ensuring structural steel is installed in accordance with approved drawings, engineering requirements, specified tolerances, and relevant quality standards.
Coordinating rigging, crane operations, lifting activities, access requirements, exclusion zones, and erection sequencing.
Ensuring temporary bracing, stability requirements, connections, bolt installation, tensioning, site welding, alignment, and final inspections are completed correctly.
Conducting site inductions, daily pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, safety inspections, and consultation with workers.
Ensuring work is undertaken in accordance with approved SWMS, site safety plans, permits, company procedures, and applicable WHS requirements.
Monitoring workforce productivity and ensuring the installation program and agreed project milestones are achieved.
Identifying constructability concerns, drawing discrepancies, material shortages, delays, defects, and potential variations at the earliest opportunity.
Raising RFIs and reporting delays, additional works, changes in scope, and other project risks to the Project Manager.
Liaising professionally with clients, builders, engineers, suppliers, crane crews, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
Monitoring workmanship and completing quality inspections, checklists, ITP documentation, progress photographs, and handover records.
Maintaining accurate site diaries, timesheets, progress reports, plant records, delivery records, and other required project documentation.
Managing defects and outstanding works through to practical completion and project handover.
Providing leadership, coaching, and direction to employees while maintaining appropriate standards of performance, conduct, and accountability.
Promoting a positive workplace culture based on safety, teamwork, communication, reliability, and respect.
Ensuring Motion Group’s vehicles, plant, equipment, and tools are used responsibly and maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
Representing Motion Group professionally at all times and maintaining strong working relationships with clients and project partners.
You will be a practical and experienced structural steel professional with a strong understanding of steel erection, rigging, lifting operations, construction sequencing, and site supervision.
You must be capable of taking ownership of site delivery, making sound decisions, communicating clearly, and leading a team in a fast-paced construction environment.
