Health in Balance
About the role
We’re looking for another Accredited Exercise Physiologist to join our team at Health in Balance in Elsternwick.
The position is permanent part-time, initially 20-24 hours over three days per week, with scope to progress toward full-time.
You’ll step into an established and varied caseload, primarily involving chronic and sometimes complex health conditions. You can also expect to complete between one and three initial assessments each week, building your own caseload.
About Health in Balance
Health in Balance has provided Exercise Physiology services in Elsternwick since 2011.
We primarily work with people managing chronic disease, persistent pain and musculoskeletal conditions, falls and balance concerns and other complex health presentations. Most of our clients have been with us for years, and that says more about the care and results we provide than anything we could tell you.
We expect our clinicians to know their clients, to think carefully about their clinical decisions, and to have enough time for documentation and discuss cases when needed.
The role
The position is primarily clinic-based, with occasional home-visits or sessions in community-based facilities when required.
Your work will include:
Building strong therapeutic relationships that support long-term engagement
Completing comprehensive initial and review assessments
Developing treatment plans based on each client’s goals and presentation
Delivering individual and small-group exercise sessions
Prescribing and progressing clinic-based and home exercise programs
Providing practical health coaching and behaviour-change support
Monitoring clients’ response to exercise and referring when appropriate
Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
Communicating with GPs, specialists and other health professionals
At Health in Balance, strong clinical care starts with understanding the person in front of us. We expect our clinicians to combine evidence-based assessment and exercise prescription, with the ability to build trust, communicate clearly, and be a consistent source of support for their clients over time.
The support you’ll receive
At Health in Balance, support means:
A structured onboarding process
Initial mentoring from two senior AEPs, each with more than 10 years’ clinical experience
Weekly team discussions and case reviews
Regular one-to-one clinical support
Direct access to experienced clinicians when you need to discuss a client
Ample paid administration time
Scheduled breaks and reasonable appointment expectations
We’ll support you to develop your clinical reasoning, exercise prescription, communication and client-management skills. We also expect you to ask questions, contribute to the team and seek guidance when a presentation falls outside your current experience or scope.
About you
At least two years of relevant exercise-delivery or clinical experience is preferred. This may include experience as an AEP, AES, personal trainer, gym instructor or allied health assistant.
We will also consider strong new graduates with substantial clinical placement experience, sound clinical reasoning and confidence working unsupervised with clients.
Most importantly, you’re a capable and grounded clinician who takes pride in doing the clinical basics well. You enjoy getting to know your clients and understand that effective Exercise Physiology care depends as much on the relationship strength as it does on sound technical knowledge.
Essential requirements
ESSA accreditation as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, or eligibility to obtain accreditation before commencing
Current CPR and First Aid certification
Current Working with Children Check
Full working rights in Australia
Ability to meet Health in Balance’s professional insurance requirements.
Working arrangements
The position will initially involve 20-24 hours across three days per week. The specific days and times will be agreed before commencement.
There is scope for the position to progress toward full-time as the caseload grows. Any increase in hours will be subject to clinician performance, and mutual agreement.
Remuneration will reflect the successful applicant’s clinical experience and will be discussed during the recruitment process.
