Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd is an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation currently seeking to fill the following vacancy within our Health and Wellbeing Services division. Kalwun Health and Wellbeing Service delivers a primary health care service to the people of the Gold Coast & surrounding communities.

Do you thrive in complex healthcare systems where quality, safety, innovation and culture intersect? Kalwun Development Corporation is seeking a Clinical Director to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-quality, culturally safe, and clinically effective healthcare across our Gold Coast clinics at Coomera, Miami, and Bilinga.

About the role

As Clinical Director, you will:

• Lead the clinical governance framework
• Provide strategic clinical leadership to the Executive
• Set clinical standards, mentoring GPs and other clinicians
• Offer timely and expert clinical advice to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board
• Foster a culture of clinical excellence, openness, transparency, and learning
• Oversee healthcare policy development and ensure best practice, client-centred care delivery
• Lead and support clinical incident reviews, risk management, and service improvement initiatives
• Represent Kalwun as a senior clinical voice in internal and external forums
• Support the development of new services and ensure high standards in clinical governance
• Manage internal and external complaints/issues related to medical professionals
• Support GPs with decisions about diagnosis, treatment protocols, and complex patient care
• Deliver clinical care in accordance with Kalwun’s System of Care
• Mentor and grow clinical leadership capacity across the Kalwun clinics.

Key responsibilities

• Medical leadership and ensuring clinical excellence within GP and primary care services
• Be accountable for clinical standards, patient safety, and clinical governance
• Provide leadership in GP training and clinical leadership development
• Actively contribute to workplace culture, safety, and the broader Kalwun team and community.
   

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1. MBBS with FRACGP or FACRRM.
2. Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Specialist General Practitioner.
3. Minimum 5 years’ experience as a VR GP in primary healthcare.
4. Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership and governance.
5. Proven ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
6. Deep understanding of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs).
7. Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative leadership skills.

Desirable:

1. Experience in developing healthcare policies, quality frameworks or clinical governance structures.
2. Familiarity with health service evaluation, data-informed practice and risk management.
3. Experience supporting training and professional development of GPs or health professionals.
