Queensland Health
About the role
An exciting opportunity is available within the Population Health Division’s Environmental Health Unit, which brings together a diverse range of statewide environmental and public health functions to better support and protect Queensland communities.
The team delivers programs spanning medical entomology, public health incident and disaster management, infection control regulation for health care facilities and personal appearance services, and First Nations environmental health initiatives. It also leads the Population Health Division's One Health function, championing a collaborative approach that recognises the interconnected health of people, animals and the environment.
In this role, you will shape statewide environmental health policy and regulatory practice across a diverse and evolving portfolio. Your work will focus on policy and regulatory frameworks for infection control in personal appearance services and health care facilities, supporting local governments, Queensland Health public health units and industry to understand and implement these frameworks consistently.
You will also contribute to One Health approaches to managing environmental health risks and to mosquito-borne disease surveillance, prevention and control. You will draw on data, evidence and risk assessment to identify emerging risks, shape policy and regulatory responses, and strengthen public health practice across Queensland.
The successful person
You will be an experienced environmental health professional who can analyse complex issues, exercise sound judgement and translate legislation, evidence, data and risk into practical policy and regulatory solutions. You will be able to lead projects, manage competing priorities and produce clear, high-quality advice, briefs, policies and guidance.
You will also be a confident communicator and collaborative partner who can build productive relationships across government, local government, industry and multidisciplinary teams. You will be comfortable working across an evolving portfolio and responding to emerging environmental health risks and priorities.
