Senior Clinical Pharmacist Emergency Department Services

$47.81 - $62.70 per hour + salary packaging | Senior Clinical Pharmacist Grade 3 Emergency Medicine OR Clinical Pharmacist Grade 2 Emergency Medicine Ballarat 

40 hours per week with monthly ADO Fixed Term Full Time until July 2027 (Part Time applicants considered)

 

About the Role

As Grampians Health, and our population continues to grow, so too does our Emergency Medicine service. To support this growth, we have introduced a full-time Grade 2 or 3 Clinical Pharmacist position. This role provides an exciting opportunity to co-lead and/or support the growth of clinical pharmacy services within a rapidly expanding Emergency Department (ED). The role also contributes to innovation, service expansion and clinical excellence for Emergency Medicine Services across the wider Grampians Health network.

 

You will be responsible for or involved with (depending on experience) the delivery of advanced clinical pharmacy care across our Emergency Department, Short Stay Unit and Emergency Ambulatory Care areas. You will guide the development of the clinical pharmacy team, and support major service initiatives, including planning for the new and expanded Emergency Department opening in 2027.

 

Applications are also welcomed from motivated Grade 2 pharmacists with a demonstrated interest in Emergency Medicine who are looking to expand their acute care experience and progress toward senior practice. For a suitable Grade 2 applicant, this position offers a supported step-up development opportunity, working alongside an experienced Senior Clinical Pharmacist with structured oversight and support while building capability across clinical leadership, education, workforce development and service improvement.

 

The scope and level of independent senior responsibility will be tailored to the successful applicant’s experience. Grade 2 applicants will be supported to progressively undertake allocated senior responsibilities and portfolio activities, providing practical evidence of development toward Grade 3 capability.

Core Duties

 

Grade 3:

• Provide advanced clinical pharmacy care across ED, Short Stay Unit (SSU) and Emergency Ambulatory Care (EAC)

• Support day-to-day team workflow and safe transitions of care

• Act as a key clinical resource for pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams

• Deliver education to staff, students, patients and carers

• Provide consultative support for ED pharmacy service development across other campuses

 

Grade 2:

• Gain broad Emergency Medicine experience across the acute ED environment, SSU and EAC, with supported exposure to complex and high-acuity presentations

• Undertake allocated portfolio and senior-development activities, with oversight and support appropriate to experience

 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

Grade 3:

• Co-lead, supervise and actively contribute to the ED clinical pharmacy team

• Assist in extended-hours roster planning and workforce coordination

• Support medication safety activities, quality improvement and research projects in the ED

• Promote collaboration and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams

 

Grade 2:

• Contribute to workforce and service development projects, medication safety initiatives and quality improvement activities that can support professional portfolio development

• Provide education, supervision and mentoring to interns, students and Grade 1 pharmacists, with senior support available according to experience and development needs

•Participate in structured feedback, mentoring and professional development to build Emergency Medicine capability and progress toward advanced/senior practice

 

 

Skills & Experience

 

Grade 3:

• AHPRA registered pharmacist

• Advanced clinical pharmacy capability

• Strong communication and problem solving skills

• Skilled in supervision, mentoring and team leadership

• Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification or ANZCAP credentialing desirable

• Previous Emergency Medicine or acute/critical care experience is desirable; however, applicants able to demonstrate relevant transferable clinical skills and a strong commitment to learning will also be considered

 

Grade 2:

• AHPRA registered pharmacist

• Advanced clinical pharmacy capability

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

• Skilled in supervision and mentoring

• Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification or ANZCAP credentialing desirable

• strong general clinical foundations, a genuine interest in Emergency Medicine and demonstrated motivation to develop advanced practice

• Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt constructively within the busy and dynamic ED working environment
