Leading Hand Carpenter

About the role

This is a bridge between hands-on carpentry work and supervision. You'll spend most of your week finessing the finer details of carpentry work, and the rest making sure the site runs. You'll lead the site, own the high-detail work yourself, coordinate subbies and deliveries, read and work from architectural drawings and shop drawings, and keep the site safe, tidy and compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the site — set out the work, allocate the day, check the quality before anyone else has to

• Own the high-detail work yourself: architectural fixout, nail the feature elements, the finishes that get looked at closely

• Coordinate subbies and deliveries so the trades in front of you aren't waiting and the ones behind you aren't held up

• Read and work from architectural drawings, shop drawings and finishes schedules — and flag the clashes before they get built

• Keep the site safe, tidy and compliant

• Feed back to the Construction Manager and management team on programme, variations and anything that's about to go sideways

About you

• Proven high-end residential experience — architectural or custom homes

• Ability to lead a small crew and hold a standard without being a headache to work with

• Confident reading architectural drawings, shop drawings and finishes schedules

• Your own tools, a car and a current driver's licence — sites are across metro Melbourne and you'll potentially move between them to help on other sites

• White Card (construction induction)

• Cert III in Carpentry preferred — but if you've got the years and the work to show for it, we're more interested in that than the certificate

• EWP, scaffold or first aid tickets are a bonus — not a dealbreaker

Basement-level construction, off-form concrete, curved facade screens, bespoke joinery. The kind of detail that only works when the person running the crew actually cares about it.
