Senior Engineer Data Science

Role Summary

MA Financial Group is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer, Data Science to join the Data Enablement chapter within our Australia Business Transformation team. In this role you will design and deploy data science and advanced analytics solutions that directly support lending, credit risk, portfolio performance and client outcomes. Working across a modern cloud data platform (Azure/AWS), you will turn complex, large-scale data into actionable intelligence — driving measurable commercial impact across our Asset Management businesses.

What you will do: 

• Develop and deploy predictive models, machine learning solutions, and advanced analytics to optimise lending, credit risk, portfolio performance, pricing, and customer outcomes.
• Deliver commercial insights through forecasting, scenario modelling, dashboards, and performance reporting to support strategic business decisions.
• Design and enhance scalable, cloud-based analytics solutions by partnering with Data Engineering and leveraging modern Azure/AWS data platforms.
• Apply analytics to improve credit decisioning, portfolio management, regulatory reporting, and operational performance across lending functions.
• Build, monitor, and maintain production-ready machine learning models, including feature engineering, model validation, performance monitoring, and governance.
• Ensure data quality, regulatory compliance, and adherence to model risk management and governance frameworks.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders across business and technology teams to translate complex analytical insights into actionable recommendations while mentoring junior analysts.

Qualifications & Experience

• 7+ years' experience in data science, advanced analytics, or machine learning within banking, lending, or financial services.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, with proven experience developing predictive models, statistical analyses, and machine learning solutions.
• Hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms and tools such as AWS, Azure, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, and scalable data pipelines.
• Strong understanding of credit risk, lending operations, financial performance metrics, and regulated financial services environments (APRA/ASIC).
• Experience building dashboards and reporting solutions using Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI platforms.
• Exposure to MLOps, CI/CD, model governance, and deploying machine learning models into production and operational decision-making processes.
• Tertiary qualification in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field, with experience in non-bank lending, NLP/LLMs, or AI platforms viewed favourably.
