Qualified Machinist 1st Class - Day Shift

Hydroil Pty Ltd is an Australian manufacturer of the highest quality hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders since 1964. The nature of the business is design, manufacture and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders supporting multiple industries such as mining, construction, transport, energy, automation and customised technology for industrial markets within Australia and globally.

We are seeking an energetic and team orientated Manual Centre Lathe Machinist based at our Woodville North plant. This is a full-time permanent position and available for an immediate start.

About the role

Set up and operate various machine tools to shape and form a variety of metals to fine tolerances, using detailed drawings and specification.

Key responsibilities

• Machine parts in a timely manner to engineering detailed drawings and company specifications using machine tools such as a Lathe, milling machine, Radial Drill, Drill Press, Hone, Band Saw etc.

• Set up, adjust and operate a variety of machine tools and many specialized advanced variation tools to perform precision machine operations.

• Study the engineering drawings, sample parts and specifications to determine the methods and sequences of operation needed to machine / fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.

• Check that the material conforms to the material grade, length and diameter as specified on engineering drawing and specifications.

• Regularly attend apprentice's workstations to ensure they are working to company standards & maintaining strict safety standards.

• Inspect material prior to machining to ensure there are no defects.

• Use precise measuring tools such as verniers, micrometers, and dial indicators as required.

• Monitor the speed and feed of the machining process for optimum performance.

• Inspect all components to ensure they are within tolerance and drawing specifications.

• Confer with supervisory and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information as required.

About you

• Use forklift for material handling purposes (only if licensed)

• Conversant with The Group's Environment, Safety, Drug and Alcohol Policies, Business Management System and Emergency Plan

Key requirements:

• Machinist Trade Qualification - MEM40119 or Australian Government Approved Qualification

• Experience with manual center lathe (Desirable)

• Experience in screw cutting internal and external threads (Desirable)

• Work to fine tolerances with speed, accuracy and attention to detail.

• Follow instructions and read complex detail drawings.

• Reliable, self-motivated and can work with minimum supervision.

• Good OH&S awareness

• Good communication skills

• Work a 38hr, 4 day working week, 6.45am to 4.45pm Monday to Thursday.

• Be available from time to time to work overtime on Friday and Saturday.
