The Opportunity

The HR and Remuneration Generalist is Harwell Home Care’s Australian-based lead for practical, responsive and compliant people support. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the role leads the day-to-day delivery of HR and recruitment services across the People, Culture and Wellbeing team, providing clear priorities, coaching, quality assurance and escalation support. 

This is an autonomous, hands-on HR role that works closely with leaders across the organisation on employee relations, performance, organisational change, employment documentation and workforce matters. It also owns Harwell’s remuneration and employment compliance processes, including award interpretation, classifications, pay reviews, benchmarking and advice on remuneration decisions. 

Key Accountabilities:

Team Leadership and People Service Delivery 

• Lead the day-to-day work of the HR and People Experience team, ensuring responsibilities, service standards and escalation pathways are clear.
• Review and quality-check advice, contracts, letters, reports and other people documentation prepared by the team.
• Balance operational priorities across recruitment, onboarding, HR administration, employee relations and compliance.
• Act as the Australian escalation point for complex or sensitive matters and support the Chief People Officer with priority work.

Employee Relations and Leader Advice 

• Provide practical, commercially sound advice to leaders on performance, conduct, attendance, grievances, complaints, workplace behaviour and employment risk.
• Manage or support investigations, coach leaders to address issues early, disciplinary processes, show-cause matters, terminations and other sensitive employee matters with procedural fairness and accurate documentation.
• Coach leaders to address issues early, hold effective conversations and apply policies consistently.
• Liaise with external legal advisers where required and implement agreed actions.

Remuneration, Awards and Employment Compliance 

• Maintain Harwell’s remuneration framework, salary bands, role classifications and remuneration governance.
• Interpret and apply modern awards, NES, employment arrangements and HR policies.
• Lead remuneration reviews, market benchmarking and pay recommendations, ensuring equity and competitiveness.
• Maintain compliance across contracts, pay and employment conditions, monitoring legislative and award changes and coordinating implementation.

Performance, Workforce and Organisational Change 

• Coordinate performance and KPI cycles, reporting and leader support.
• Support workforce planning, position design, succession and capability development.
• Provide HR support for restructures, redeployment and redundancies, identifying people risks and priorities, ensuring legal compliance and respectful communication. 

Policy, HR Operations and Systems 

• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, employment documents and leader resources.
• Ensure accurate, secure and audit-ready employee records, approvals and documentation.
• Oversee Employment Hero workflows and clarify cross-functional ownership to streamline HR processes, automation and data integrity.

Recruitment and Employee Lifecycle Oversight 

• Oversee recruitment delivery, ensuring workforce priorities, compliance, candidate experience and hiring standards are met.
• Partner with leaders on complex recruitment and ensure onboarding, contract variations and offboarding are consistent and well-coordinated.
• Monitor recruitment and retention trends, addressing recurring gaps and improving end-to-end people processes.

Reporting, Insights and Governance 

• Prepare accurate workforce, remuneration, compliance and people-risk reports for the CPO, Executive and Board.
• Audit HR data and processes, track KPIs, and drive actions to improve quality, timeliness and employee experience.
• Maintain confidentiality and sound judgement when managing sensitive personal and commercial information.

Culture, Engagement and Change 

• Support initiatives that strengthen engagement, recognition, retention, wellbeing and Harwell’s employee value proposition.
• Help leaders communicate and embed organisational change in a clear, respectful and practical way.
• Build trusted relationships across the organisation while remaining willing to challenge respectfully when people, compliance or business risks arise.

What We’re Looking For

• Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent substantial experience.
• At least five years’ broad Australian HR generalist experience, including complex employee relations matters.
• Strong knowledge of the Fair Work Act, NES, modern awards and contemporary Australian HR practices.
• Remuneration expertise, including benchmarking, classification, salary reviews, pay analysis and employment conditions.
• Experience leading HR, recruitment or people-services teams, with strong HRIS, data analysis and reporting capability.
• Strong communication, documentation and risk-assessment skills, with sound judgement, confidentiality and a solutions-focused approach to change.

Highly Desirable

• Experience in home care, aged care, community services, disability or other regulated, award-reliant environments, with knowledge of SCHADS, Aged Care and Nurses Awards.
• Experience with Employment Hero and supporting geographically dispersed or offshore teams.
• Experience in restructures, due diligence, payroll compliance or remuneration projects; AHRI or equivalent professional membership is a plus.
