Clinical Nurse Manager – Surgical

Join the clinical leadership team at Hollywood Private Hospital as a Full-Time Nurse Unit Manager, providing strong clinical and operational leadership across the General Surgical environment. 

Working closely with the Deputy Director of Clinical Services Surgical Specialties, you will be responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care. Working closely with medical, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams, you will lead and support staff while promoting a positive culture of teamwork, accountability, professional development and continuous improvement.

You will play a key role in ensuring clinical standards, quality requirements and organisational objectives are consistently achieved while supporting an excellent experience for patients and their families.

About You

You are an experienced Registered Nurse and clinical leader with strong acute surgical nursing knowledge and experience and the ability to lead a busy clinical team.

You demonstrate sound clinical judgement, excellent communication, and strong organisational skills. You are confident managing competing priorities, supporting staff and making decisions in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

You are passionate about developing people, improving clinical outcomes, and delivering safe, compassionate, and patient-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide effective clinical and operational leadership for the nursing team.
• Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred nursing care.
• Oversee the day-to-day management and coordination of the unit.
• Lead, support, and develop nursing staff to achieve clinical and professional standards.
• Promote a positive and collaborative team culture.
• Ensure appropriate staffing and resource management to support safe patient care.
• Monitor patient care, clinical outcomes and compliance with relevant standards and policies.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives.
• Identify and manage clinical risks and escalate issues appropriately.
• Work collaboratively with medical practitioners, allied health professionals, and other key stakeholders.
• Provide clinical support and guidance to nursing staff.
• Facilitate staff performance, education, development, and competency requirements.
• Participate in recruitment, orientation and onboarding of staff as required.
• Manage patient and family concerns professionally and appropriately.
• Ensure accurate clinical documentation and reporting requirements are maintained.
• Contribute to accreditation, clinical governance, and quality improvement activities.
• Manage incidents, complaints, and other clinical matters in accordance with hospital procedures.
• Promote infection prevention and control, workplace health and safety and risk management practices.
• Support the implementation of organisational policies, procedures, and initiatives.
• Maintain a strong focus on patient and family experience.
• Undertake other duties as directed by the Director of Clinical Services.

• Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
• Demonstrated clinical leadership and management experience.
• Strong recent experience in an acute Surgical nursing environment.
• Strong clinical assessment, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse nursing team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
