Youth Development Officer

About the role

You will lead the Youth Leadership Program, working directly with young people aged 12–25 who are disengaged or at risk.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and run on-country day trips and camps alongside Elders and community members

• Identify opportunities and programs for improved youth services

• Provide one-on-one and group support in safe, culturally strong spaces

• Recruit and supervise a full-time Youth Support Worker

• Partner with schools, services and agencies for joined-up support

• Track and report on program outcomes

About you (Selection criteria)

• Understands Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and can communicate sensitively in a discrete Aboriginal community

• Experience working with young people (youth work, community services, education, sport or similar) with trauma-informed, culturally safe practice

• Strong communicator with young people, families and government agencies

• Works independently and meets deadlines in a remote community setting

• Keeps good records and contributes to program and funding reports

• Blue Card (Working with Children Check)

• Satisfactory Criminal History Check

• Current 'C' Class Open (Manual) or 'LR' Driver's License valid in Queensland

• Current First Aid and CPR Certificate, or willingness to obtain within a short timeframe
