About the role
Under basic supervision, the Utility Systems Technician operates a variety of tools and equipment in the maintenance and construction of water and wastewater systems.
• Operates and uses hand and pneumatic tools as needed, including jackhammers, gasoline tampers, hack saws, tapping machine. boring machine, hydraulic jacking machine, cement mixers and compressors and sewer jetting machine,
• Drives front-end loader, dump trucks, backhoe, combination vacuum and jetting machine, track vehicles and cherry picker.
• Reads and completes daily work logs and service forms.
• Performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.
• Regular attendance at work and arrives on time.
• Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent.
• Ability to get along with other employees and the public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License
• Previous public works maintenance or construction experience preferred, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must possess a Class D Water License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one (1) year of employment.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and TCEQ standards related to water and wastewater systems.
• Familiarity with work safety policies, procedures, and PPE use.
• Reading and accurately interpreting technical manuals and instructions.
• Records maintenance and retention practices and procedures.
• Proficiency in construction, maintenance, and repair of water/wastewater infrastructure.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with staff, agencies, and the public.
• Skilled in operating tools, equipment, and materials.
• Effective organization, prioritization, and deadline management.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain professional relationships.
