Board members contribute to this mission by providing strategic oversight and supporting sustainable heritage management.
Role Description The Board Director is a volunteer role based on-site in Bendigo, VIC, contributing to governance, strategic direction, and oversight of Bendigo Heritage’s activities. Day-to-day responsibilities include attending board meetings, reviewing reports and proposals, and participating in strategic planning for the organization and its key sites. The role involves monitoring financial performance, risk management, and compliance with relevant regulations and policies. Board Directors collaborate with fellow board members, management, and key stakeholders to support fundraising, community engagement, and long-term sustainability of heritage assets. Directors are expected to actively contribute their expertise, maintain high ethical standards, and champion Bendigo Heritage within the community.
Qualifications
Strong governance, strategic planning, and risk management capabilities, with experience on boards or leadership committees preferred.Financial literacy, such as budgeting, financial oversight, or accounting knowledge, to support sound organizational decision-making.Stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with community groups, government, and partners.Interest or experience in heritage, tourism, arts, or cultural organizations, with an understanding of preservation and community impact.Ability to commit time for board meetings, preparation, and occasional on-site events, and to work constructively within a diverse board.High standards of integrity, independence of judgment, and familiarity with not-for-profit or volunteer-based environments.Relevant tertiary qualifications in fields such as business, law, finance, heritage management, or community development are beneficial but not mandatory.
