About the role

The Finance Business Partner supports the Head of Finance by providing management accounting, financial analysis, grants financial reporting and business partnering across Cancer Council Australia. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will work collaboratively with grant owners, budget holders and operational teams to enable effective planning, decision making and financial management.

This is a broad and hands-on finance role, spanning grant financial reporting and tracking, budgeting and forecasting support, month-end processes, payroll assistance and financial capability building across the organisation. You will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial information and helping teams across Cancer Council Australia understand and act on their financial position.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting with preparing monthly grant financial reports across Cancer Council Australia grants, including campaign grant reports where required.
• Maintaining grant tracking records for income, expenditure, commitments and reporting deadlines against approved budgets and funding agreements.
• Supporting the development and improvement of grant financial reporting models, including data validation, testing and process documentation.
• Providing finance support to core operations, including budget inputs, forecast updates and regular management reports.
• Partnering with budget owners and stakeholders to provide timely financial information that supports decision making.
• Supporting quarterly forecasting processes and the preparation of quarterly forecast reports for ELT, the Finance Audit & Risk Committee and the Board.
• Assisting with payroll processing activities, including preparing payroll information and following up queries.
• Supporting the month-end close process, including preparation of journals within agreed timelines.
• Developing training resources and guidance for managers and staff during budgeting and forecasting.
• Designing and developing financial reports for business users and reviewing processes to identify efficiencies.

About you

You are a CA/CPA qualified finance professional who enjoys working closely with both finance and non-finance teams. You are organised and collaborative individual who enjoys working closely with both finance and non-finance teams. You bring strong attention to detail and take pride in getting routine reporting, reconciliations and financial information right, every time.

You are comfortable managing multiple deadlines across grant reporting, forecasting, payroll and month-end reporting. You are confident explaining financial information clearly to people who don’t work in finance. You bring sound judgement, discretion with sensitive information, and a practical, can do approach to supporting the teams around you.

You bring:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting. A CA/CPA qualification is mandatory.
• Experience in management accounting, financial reporting or finance support.
• Ability to prepare routine financial reports, reconciliations, schedules and variance information accurately.
• Experience supporting grant, project or restricted-funding tracking and reporting processes.
•  Ability to maintain reporting templates, data records and system-based reports under guidance.
• Practical experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, payroll processing, month-end processes, reconciliations and general ledger checks.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and confidence using finance or reporting systems.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly and work cooperatively with finance and non-finance colleagues.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to complete routine tasks accurately and within agreed deadlines.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality over sensitive information (e.g. payroll details).
• Experience working in the not-for-profit sector.
• Experience with Netsuite is highly desirable.
