Purpose of the Position
The Paediatric Staff Specialist will be a member of the Medical Forensic Team within the multidisciplinary Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Service at Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD). The primary purpose of this role is to deliver integrated, holistic and patient-centred care to children and young people where there are concerns of abuse, neglect, or exposure to violence.
The PARVAN Paediatric Staff Specialist will undertake medical and forensic assessments in cases of suspected child sexual assault as part of a coordinated, integrated response. The role provides expert clinical assessment, consultation, support and advice to PARVAN services throughout NSLHD, with a particular focus on child sexual assault, child protection (including children under 10 years with Problematic and Harmful Sexual Behaviours (PHSB)) and domestic and family violence.
The incumbent will deliver specialised clinical consultation and support to Emergency Department clinicians, General Paediatricians, Community Paediatricians and other healthcare professionals across the District to promote best practice in the assessment and management of children and young people affected by violence, abuse and neglect.
The role also contributes to the education, supervision and training of clinical staff within PARVAN and other services. In addition, the incumbent will support research, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives to strengthen clinical practice and ensure the delivery of high-quality, integrated and patient-focused PARVAN services by a skilled, capable and confident workforce.
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
