Alternate Underground Manager / Senior Mining Engineer

About the role

Valiant Gold is seeking an experienced Alternate Underground Manager / Senior Mining Engineer to lead Technical Services and provide statutory and operational coverage at the Comet Underground Mine. Reporting to the Underground Manager, the role manages site planning from medium term through to short-term execution, mine design, drill and blast and technical optimisation. When the Underground Manager is off site, the successful candidate will assume responsibility for underground operational execution, contractor performance and statutory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Alternate Underground Manager and lead the underground operation when required.

• Lead and manage the site Technical Services team, including mining engineering, geology, geotechnical and survey functions.

• Manage medium-term and short-term planning, mine design, scheduling and drill and blast activities.

• Ensure mine plans are practical and effectively translated into safe operational execution.

• Manage contractor performance and resolve technical or operational constraints.

• Monitor production, development, dilution, ore recovery and performance against plan.

• Support ventilation, ground control and statutory compliance requirements.

• Review and validate contractor progress claims using survey, production and operational data.

• Coordinate key physicals supporting contractor claims, cost reporting, budgeting and forecasting.

• Identify and implement opportunities to improve safety, productivity, cost performance and mine value.

About you

• Current Western Australian First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (essential).

• Degree in Mining Engineering.

• Demonstrated experience in both technical services and underground operational leadership.

• Strong narrow vein underground gold mining and longhole open stoping experience, including uphole and downhole methods.

• Extensive mine planning, design, scheduling and drill and blast experience.

• Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.

• Advanced proficiency with the Deswik software suite, including Deswik.CAD, Deswik.Sched, and Deswik.UGDB (Underground Drill and Blast).

• Proven contractor management, cost control and progress claim validation experience.

• Strong understanding of underground ventilation and statutory requirements.

• Ability to independently manage underground operations when acting as Underground Manager.

• Strong technical, leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
