Director Accreditation and Planning

The Director, Accreditation and Planning is a key role providing leadership to ensure the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) meets and sustains the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.

The role is responsible for shaping and continuously improving the QAS’s clinical governance systems, ensuring they are contemporary, data-informed, consumer-centred and operationally embedded across the organisation. This includes collaborating with Senior Executive to lead strategic accreditation planning, system design, policy development, and clinical risk mitigation to strengthen patient safety, quality of care and high-reliability performance across the organisation. 

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:

• Can establish and maintain a high level of credibility with the executive leadership team, senior managers and clinicians across the QAS and Queensland Health.
• A mature understanding of the nuances that can surround the provision of contemporary, ambulance health services within Queensland.
• Must demonstrate strategic planning, political astuteness, leadership and management skills including proven success in achieving business objectives, contributing to improving organisational performance and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary work units in the achievement of organisational outcomes.
• High-level understanding and experience in the governance of clinical service delivery to diverse and widely distributed communities within a complex contemporary health service environment, including the proven ability to provide expert advice to address and resolve complex professional practise and operational clinical matters.
• Have expert knowledge of NSQHS accreditation processes and requirements within a contemporary ambulance service, emergency management system or health care related environment.
• High level conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret trend/output/outcome performance data to drive performance improvement and the ability to provide authoritative advice to senior executives and line managers which contributes to quality decision making and the achievement of organisational outcomes.
• Demonstrated capability and success in planning, leading, implementing and managing diverse clinical systems, frameworks and programs.
• Demonstrated ability to support and coach employees through a change management process and provide advice on the development of relevant education programs to staff regarding accreditation processes.
• Must have comprehensive clinical experience and capabilities in the delivery of quality out-of-hospital care and experience in providing quality clinical advice and support in a complex, diverse, mission critical, pre-hospital emergency service environment.
• Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with a superior ability to build and maintain productive relationships with partners and key stakeholders across a range of sectors, and influence through leadership to drive reforms that ensure service systems are increasingly responsive to the needs of patients and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and actively contribute to professional networks across the health, medical, education, government, non-government and community sectors.

Mandatory/Special conditions/Other requirements:

• Appointments to this position will require proof of qualification/s and current registration under the National Scheme, as determined by the Paramedicine Board of Australia.
• Applicants must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Paramedicine or Health Science (Paramedic); or an Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Ambulance); or equivalent health science qualifications as determined by the Commissioner, QAS.
• Applicants are required to hold an open Queensland “C” Class Driver's Licence.
• It is an express condition of employment for all people who are to perform roles with direct patient contact to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following infectious diseases during their employment: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis (Whooping Cough); Hepatitis B; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Varicella (Chickenpox); Influenza.
