About the role
An opportunity has become available to join Ahpra’s National Legal Practice, a high‑performing, multidisciplinary team of more than 100 legal professionals across Australia. As a Legal Advisor in the Information, Appeals and Advice team, you will contribute directly to Ahpra’s purpose of protecting the public as the national regulator of health practitioners.
This role operates at the intersection of law, regulation and people. Many of the matters involve individuals in vulnerable circumstances, requiring sound judgement, professionalism and empathy, alongside strong legal expertise.
We are recruiting to a full time, fixed term position (up to end of August 2027) and may establish a merit pool for future opportunities.
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Legal Advisor – Information, Appeals and Advice, the Legal Advisor provides high‑quality legal advice and litigation support in matters relating to the regulation of health practitioners. The role has a particular focus on the collection, storage, use and disclosure of information, supporting consistent, fair and lawful regulatory decision‑making across the organisation.
Working closely with colleagues across legal, regulatory and operational teams, you will contribute to a collaborative environment where knowledge is shared and people are supported.

About You
You are a capable and thoughtful legal professional who can work with a high degree of autonomy while recognising the importance of teamwork and shared responsibility. You bring strong organisational skills, good judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and sensitive environment.
Importantly you are people centred in your approach. You may have experience working with vulnerable individuals or within environments where your empathy, discretion and professionalism are essential. You communicate clearly, listing carefully and build trusting relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
