NEXTGEN
About the role
Nextgen AV is seeking an experienced and highly organised Operations Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operational performance of our business.
We deliver professional audiovisual and event-production services across corporate events, conferences, exhibitions, public events, activations and major productions.
This is a key leadership position for someone who understands the events or audiovisual industry and knows how to keep multiple projects, people, equipment and deadlines moving together.
You will work closely with the Managing Director, sales team, project managers, warehouse team, technicians and casual crew to ensure every confirmed job is properly planned, resourced, prepared, delivered and closed out.
This is not a purely administrative position. It requires a practical, hands-on operations leader who can establish structure, maintain visibility across the workload and hold people accountable for completing their responsibilities.
The roleYou will become the central operational control point between sales, project preparation, warehouse operations and on-site delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing the master production and operational schedule
Overseeing the handover of confirmed projects from sales to operations
Allocating projects and responsibilities across the production team
Monitoring workloads, priorities, deadlines and project readiness
Ensuring job packages contain the required scope, schedules, equipment, staffing and client information
Coordinating project managers, technicians, warehouse staff, suppliers and casual crew
Overseeing equipment preparation, transport, logistics and site requirements
Running regular production and operational meetings
Identifying missing information, resource conflicts and delivery risks early
Following up incomplete work and ensuring agreed deadlines are met
Maintaining clear, practical procedures, checklists and operating standards
Conducting final readiness checks before equipment and crew leave the warehouse
Ensuring completed projects are properly closed out
Capturing variations, equipment issues, incidents and information required for invoicing
Supporting the Managing Director with operational reporting and continuous improvement
Helping create a culture of accountability, communication and reliable delivery
You are calm, methodical and highly accountable. You can manage competing priorities without losing sight of the details that determine whether an event succeeds.
You are comfortable working with experienced production people and are confident following up tasks, challenging incomplete work and enforcing agreed processes.
You will ideally have:
Previous operations, production-management or senior project-management experience
Experience within audiovisual production, technical events, staging, exhibitions or a related industry
A strong understanding of event planning, crewing, logistics and on-site delivery
Experience managing multiple live projects and changing deadlines
Strong scheduling, prioritisation and workload-management skills
The confidence to hold staff accountable in a professional and constructive manner
The ability to identify operational risks and take action before they become delivery problems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Confidence using job-management, scheduling, CRM and Microsoft Office systems
The ability to create procedures and checklists that are clear, practical and easy for busy teams to follow
A hands-on, solutions-focused approach
A current Australian driver’s licence
Experience in professional AV, lighting, staging, LED screens, audio systems or technical event production will be highly regarded.
What success looks likeIn this role, success means:
Every confirmed project has a clear owner and delivery plan
Project information is complete before preparation begins
Staff understand their responsibilities and deadlines
Workloads and resource conflicts are identified early
Equipment, transport and crew are confirmed on time
Jobs leave the warehouse properly prepared
Clients receive consistent, professional delivery
Variations, incidents and outstanding tasks are captured promptly
Procedures are followed and continuously improved
The Managing Director has clear visibility across the operation without needing to personally chase every task
This is an opportunity to take ownership of an important function within an established Melbourne event-production business.
You will have direct access to the Managing Director and the authority to improve the systems, accountability and operational structure of the company.
For the right person, this is a genuine leadership opportunity with the ability to make a visible difference across the entire business.
You will join a team that values professional delivery, practical problem-solving and strong client relationships.
Technical. Creative. Trusted.
