Restaurant General Manager

About the role

The General Manager is the senior operational leader of Argyle House Camden and is accountable for the venue's commercial performance, guest experience, people leadership, compliance, reputation and daily operations. This position requires an experienced hospitality executive who can lead decisively, exercise sound commercial judgement and make timely decisions in the best interests of the Argyle House brand. The General Manager is expected to take ownership of the venue—not simply administer it—while operating within approved budgets, company policies and delegated authority.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visible, professional and hands-on leadership and take ownership of the venue's daily performance and operating standards
• Translate the Directors' strategy into clear priorities and measurable actions and protect and elevate the Argyle House brand across every guest and employee touchpoint
• Take responsibility for the venue's profit and loss performance and deliver approved revenue, labour, cost-of-goods and operating-profit targets
• Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts and performance reports and analyse sales, average guest spend, labour productivity, food and beverage margins, discounts, wastage and operating expenses
• Establish, communicate and enforce premium service standards and maintain a meaningful on-floor presence during key services and major events
• Monitor the guest experience and intervene when standards are not being achieved and resolve serious complaints with authority, fairness and commercial judgement
• Lead, coach and hold accountable the venue's management team and oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, rosters, performance reviews and succession planning
• Oversee the commercial and operational delivery of private dining, weddings, corporate functions and major events
• Maintain compliance with NSW liquor licensing, responsible service of alcohol, food safety, employment, privacy and work health and safety obligations
• Ensure accurate use of point-of-sale, rostering, payroll, booking, accounting and reporting systems and provide weekly reporting covering sales, labour, costs, functions, guest feedback, staffing, compliance and priority actions

About you

• Substantial experience as a General Manager, Venue Manager or senior hospitality leader
• Experience in a premium, high-volume restaurant, hotel, club or functions venue
• Demonstrated responsibility for profit and loss performance and experience managing budgets, labour, cost of goods, expenses and revenue targets
• Proven ability to make sound executive decisions under pressure
• Strong experience leading multidisciplinary hospitality teams
• A record of improving service, culture, commercial performance and guest satisfaction
• Experience delivering restaurant services, private functions and major events
• Strong financial understanding and commercial judgement
• Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
• Strong knowledge of NSW liquor licensing, food safety, employment and work health and safety requirements
• Current NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol certification
• Full Australian working rights
• Approved manager or liquor licensee qualifications are highly regarded
