The Technical Procurement Officer is responsible for sourcing and procuring technically specified components, materials, and services to support our engineering and manufacturing operations.
This is not a transactional procurement role. You’ll need to be comfortable working with engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications and confident enough to ask questions, challenge designs, and engage suppliers at a technical level to ensure the right outcomes.
Working closely across design, engineering, quality, and production, you’ll play a key role in ensuring components are delivered on time, to specification, and at the right cost.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Sourcing & Procurement
Review and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications to accurately source materials and components
Source and procure components aligned to project requirements and production schedules
Ensure purchased items meet quality standards and delivery commitments
Lead RFQs/RFPs and negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms with suppliers
Challenge where needed, question specifications, identify risks, and propose alternative solutions
Identify opportunities for improved suppliers, equipment, or processes and support business case development
Manage and support purchasing administration activities
Supplier Management
Build strong relationships with suppliers, particularly for precision-engineered and technically complex components
Act as a technical point of contact, resolving queries, non-conformances, and deviations
Monitor supplier performance across quality, delivery, and cost, driving improvement where required
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with design, engineering, quality, warehouse, and project teams to align procurement activities
Provide visibility on order status, risks, and delivery timelines
Contribute to design and cost reviews, ensuring procurement is both technically sound and commercially effective
Support customer-facing activities when required
Compliance & Systems
Maintain accurate purchasing data within ERP and project management systems
Ensure documentation is complete (e.g. certifications, inspection reports, conformance records)
Support audit and traceability requirements
Continuous Improvement & Cost Management
Contribute to process improvements and supply chain optimisation initiatives
Support cost reduction, make-vs-buy decisions, and risk mitigation strategies
Monitor market trends, pricing, and lead times to proactively manage supply risk
Strong technical mindset, able to read, interpret, and understand engineering drawings and specifications
Curious and confident, comfortable asking questions and challenging suppliers, designs, and assumptions
Experience in procurement, supply chain, or engineering within a technical or manufacturing environment
Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
Excellent organisational and problem-solving ability
Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-functional communication skills
Commercial awareness with a focus on cost, quality, and delivery
